Each week, fans will have an opportunity to vote for one high school football coach in Hillsborough county as the Buccaneers' Coach of the Week. Candidates will have led their schools to an impressive victory and demonstrated a commitment to fundamentals, player safety, sportsmanship, academic development, and community engagement.
After all of the fan votes have been collected, Jesuit's Matt Thomson has been selected as the Buccaneers' High School Coach of the Week for Week 2. Jesuit picked up a 38-0 victory over Ocala Trinity Catholic this past weekend, recording their second shutout in three games. Thompson's team was short-handed, as well, with their starting running back sidelined.
Thompson is in his third year as Jesuit's Head Coach and has won district titles in each of his first two seasons at the helm. After serving as Armwood's Defensive Coordinator for a decade, Thompson became the 20th Head Coach in Jesuit's 90-plus-year history.
The school, located in downtown Tampa, has produced several NFL players, including Rich McKay, the Buccaneers' General Manager from 1993 to 2003. Former Buccaneer Dave Moore is also currently a coach as Jesuit.
