On Thursday, June 6 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued their support in the fight against childhood cancer through their annual "Cut and Color Funds the Cure" to benefit the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF). Buccaneers players, legends and staff members, including COO Brian Ford had their heads or facial hair shaved or colored red. The 2024 event featured several Buccaneers legends in attendance including Rob Gronkowski, Ronde Barber, Mike Alstott, Jimmie Giles, Richard "Batman" Wood, Martin Gramatica, Dexter Jackson, Michael Clayton, Barry Smith and Dave Moore.

Now in the tenth year of this campaign, the team has raised nearly $700,000 for NPCF. In addition, for the first time in its 10-year history, the event will be open to members of the public free of charge. Fans who donate at least $100 will have access to seating and a signed photo after the event.

The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Tampa, is dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer. Its mission is to find more targeted treatments by partnering with leading hospitals nationwide through its research initiatives. Cancer is the number one cause of death by disease among children and every day, 43 kids in the U.S. are expected to be diagnosed with cancer.

More than 95% of childhood cancer survivors experience significant health-related issues by the age of 45 because of current treatment options. Additionally, only 4% of the billions of dollars the government spends annually on cancer research is directed towards treating childhood cancer.

Notable Buccaneers who also supported the cause included General Manager Jason Licht, Head Coach Todd Bowles, Assistant General Managers Mike Greenberg and John Spytek, along with Jamel Dean, Mike Evans, Antoine Winfield Jr., Cade Otton and Yaya Diaby. They were joined by 10 legends in attendance, including Rob Gronkowski, Ronde Barber, Mike Alstott, Jimmie Giles, Richard "Batman" Wood, Martin Gramatica, Dexter Jackson, Michael Clayton, Barry Smith and Dave Moore.

"Every year we try to give an afternoon to some very courageous children and their families to forget about what they are up against, and you just see smiles all around," said Buccaneers COO Brian Ford. "This has been an incredible collective effort over the last decade across our entire organization along with the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. It's our responsibility to help bring awareness and give individuals an opportunity they normally wouldn't have by utilizing our platform and overall, it has been a tremendous success."
