Shari Glazer, wife of Tampa Bay Buccaneers Executive Vice President Ed Glazer, will serve as chairperson for AIDSWalk Tampa `99, which will take place on Saturday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. in downtown Tampa. This marks Glazer's second consecutive year as the chairman of the Walk, which is organized annually by the Tampa AIDS Network to generate money and awareness for Bay area residents who are affected by HIV disease.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization is one of AIDSWalk Tampa 99
s largest sponsors. Glazer and the Buccaneers will donate four tickets to the pre-game brunch along with club seats to the team`s home game against the Green Bay Packers to the individual who raises the most money for AIDSWalk. Glazer and the club's community relations department also assembled a team of staff members to participate in the fund-raising Walk, and donated such items as a football autographed by Head Coach Tony Dungy and several pairs of football shoes signed by various players for the event's silent auction. Members of the Buccaneers' Band of Pirates will be on hand with face paints and balloons for families and children attending the event.
"The Buccaneers are a tremendous supporter of the Tampa AIDS Network," Glazer said. "We feel it is very important to generate awareness and raise money that will help us find a cure for this disease that affects so many people in our community."
AIDSWalk Tampa `99 will begin at the Tampa Museum of Art Forecourt, and will wind through downtown Tampa to the Florida Aquarium and back. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the 3 mile walk at 11:00 a.m. Glazer will present awards at the recognition/awards ceremony at 1:00 p.m.
More than 65 teams have already signed up for the walk-a-thon, and applications are still available. For information on becoming a walker, contact the Tampa AIDS Network at 813/914-8888, ext. 280.
