Reidel Anthony Kicks Off 'Kids Are Heroes' Program

Tampa Bay BuccaneersWR Reidel Anthony will join officials from Tampa Childrens Hospital in a news conference announcing the "Kids Are Heroes" program, an initiative that recognizes children in the Bay area community who have performed heroic and unselfish acts. The news conference will be held on Tuesday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the main lobby of Tampa Childrens Hospital at St. Josephs, located at 3001 W. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

Anthony will serve as the official spokesperson for the program, now in its third year of existence. In that role, the Bucs` starting receiver will make visits to Tampa Children's Hospital, record a public service announcement that promotes the program, and present awards at the Kids Are Heroes Awards Banquet in May.

"It`s important for children to know they don't have to be a professional athlete or a famous person to be a hero," Anthony said. "This program recognizes those kids in our community who have courageously gone out of their way to help other people. These kids are real heroes."

Sponsored by the Buccaneers, the Tampa Tribune and KISS FM, the Kids Are Heroes Award recognizes students ages five-18 from Hillsborough, Hernando, Pasco and Polk counties. Those who are nominated must demonstrate such heroic deeds as setting a good example for their peers, performing a selfless act, displaying compassion when another person or animal is in need or putting someone else's needs before their own. A panel of judges consisting of patients at Tampa Childrens Hospital selects the winners. The honorees, along with their families and the people who nominated them, are invited to the programs awards banquet that will take place at the hospital in May.

Program nomination forms will be available during the month of April at schools, churches, Boys and Girls Clubs, libraries and YMCAs in Hillsborough, Hernando, Pasco and Polk counties. Forms will also be available in the Kids Life and Teens Life sections of the Tampa Tribune.
