Cheerleading Tryouts Set

Women age 18 and over who have strong dance and cheer backgrounds are invited to try out for the 1999 Tampa Bay Buccaneers SwashBucler cheerleading squad. Approximately 30 women will be selected for the squad, which entertains the crowds at all Buccaneers home games and also makes routine appearances at various community and corporate functions.

The tryout process will begin March 2-4 with optional pre-audition classes that will provide choreography lessons and an overview of the SwashBucler program. Each class costs $15 and will be offered in two separate sessions: 6-7:30 p.m. and 8-9:30 p.m. each evening. Women who choose to participate must attend one of the six sessions and must bring a valid picture ID, a non-returnable photo and an updated resume.

Preliminary auditions will take place on Saturday, March 6, beginning with a 7:30 a.m. registration. Those women who qualify will move on to the final auditions, which will begin Saturday, March 13 at 8:00 a.m.

All audition events will take place in the basketball gym at Hillsborough Community College, located on the corner of Tampa Bay Boulevard and Dale Mabry Highway across from Raymond James Stadium.

"We are looking for enthusiastic, positive-minded women to lead the cheers at Buccaneers games and represent the Buccaneer organization throughout the Tampa Bay community," said team Cheerleading Coordinator Carole Wood. "The SwashBuclers are a talented group of women who have become a key component of the Buccaneers` game day operations. We encourage Tampa Bay area women to help us build upon our winning tradition."
