The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are committed to the education of youth in underserved communities. That commitment drives Buccaneers Academy programing providing enriching curriculum, state-of-the-art resources and hands-on participation from Buccaneers players and cheerleaders to 14,000 children at 24 elementary schools throughout Tampa.
On Thursday, November 18, as part of Buccaneers Academy programing, Bucs players DE George Johnson and DE Jacquies Smith and other staff members participated in the Great American Teach-In at all 24 Buccaneers Academies.
Each year, since 2010, Buccaneers employees have visited Buccaneers Academies in Hillsborough County to share information with students about their unique careers with a professional football team including coaching, cheering, graphic design, event planning and media relations to name a few.
Students' faces glowed with excitement and questions poured in as Buccaneers volunteers visited classrooms to provide a closer look at a day in the life of a sports industry professional. The special event also gave volunteers an opportunity to understand just how difficult a teacher's job can sometime be.
The Great American Teach-In is part of American Education Week, and is an initiative intended to give parents, community leaders, and the general public a better understanding and appreciation of the jobs of teachers and school employees.
The Buccaneers proudly participate in the Great American Teach year after year as part of their dedication to youth education.
