On Saturday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released the following statement regarding an accident involving safety Jordan Whitehead:

"Jordan Whitehead was involved in an auto accident this morning on his way to our practice facility. Due to injuries sustained in the accident, he will not play in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints and has been placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list. We have signed Ryan Neal from our practice squad to the 53-man roster."

Whitehead started the Buccaneers' Week 17 game against Carolina after being activated from injured reserve. He had missed the previous four games due to a pectoral injury suffered against the New York Giants in Week 12. Whitehead started all 12 games in which he appeared this season and was second on the team with 79 tackles. He also contributed two tackles for loss, a quarterback hit and three passes defensed.

Neal was signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad on December 4 and elevated for the team's Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, in which he recorded three tackles. Neal also played for the Buccaneers in 2023 after one season in Atlanta and four in Seattle and has appeared in 63 games with 32 starts. His career totals include 239 tackles, three interceptions, 16 passes defensed, 14 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
