No.14 is back!
On Monday, wide receiver Chris Godwin agreed to terms on a new three-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs previously changed the contract structure of Godwin's contract to provide more time to negotiate a contract. Both sides came to a mutual pact, keeping the slot weapon in Tampa Bay long-term.
In his eighth NFL season with the Bucs, Chris Godwin's prolific 2024 campaign prematurely ended when he suffered a dislocated ankle in the club's Week Seven loss to the Baltimore Ravens. At the time of the significant season-ending injury, Godwin led the NFL in receptions (50), receiving first downs (30) and yards after catch (324), while tying for first in receiving touchdowns (five) and he ranked second in catch percentage (81.1% - min. 25 targets) and third in receiving yards. The slot phenom was on pace for nearly 1,400 yards in 2024, which would have set a career-best. In a primary slot role, Godwin set the tone and took advantage of free releases and two-way go's.
Originally a third-round draft pick out of Penn State in 2017, Godwin ranks second in franchise history in most receiving categories, including receptions (579), receiving yards (7,266) and touchdown catches (39). The only player ahead of him on those esteemed lists is Mike Evans, and the two have formed one of the most feared receiving tandems in the NFL. Godwin's career average of 5.2 receptions per game is the highest in team history among qualifying players.
