With depth concerns about cornerback after a string of injuries in a season-opening win over Washington, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers found a reinforcement who is familiar with their defense. On Tuesday, the Buccaneers re-signed first-year cornerback Keenan Isaac who split his 2023 rookie season between the practice squad and the active roster in Tampa.

Isaac filled the roster spot opened when the team placed cornerback Bryce Hall on injured reserve. Hall suffered an ankle injury against the Commanders that required him to be carted off the field after his leg was placed in an air cast. The Buccaneers also saw starting cornerback Zyon McCollum (concussion) and reserve Josh Hayes (ankle) leave the game due to injuries and their status for the Week Two contest in Detroit is still uncertain.

Isaac first joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State in 2023. He started the season on the practice squad and got into two games after being elevated for game day. He was signed to the active roster in Week 12 but did not see action in the next three games before returning to the practice squad.

Isaac went back to training camp with the Buccaneers this summer and played in all three preseason games, recording three tackles and an interception. He was waived in the leaguewide roster cutdown to 53 players, then claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers. Carolina waived Isaac last Saturday.

Isaac played in 36 games over four seasons at Alabama State, recording 161 tackles, five interceptions, 31 passes defensed, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
