High School
- Emeka Egbuka attended Steilacoom High and emerged as one of the top wide receivers as a freshman All-American. He posted 44 receptions for 808 yards and 13 touchdowns. Egbuka led Steilacoom to its second-consecutive district title as a sophomore, posting 72 receptions for 1,492 yards and 23 touchdowns. His most notable season came during his junior year, where he led Steilacoom to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the 2019 2A State Championship Game – the first in school history. Egbuka set a title-game record of 18 catches for 163 yards and three touchdowns.
DB Experience at Steilacoom
- Emeka Egbuka also made an impact on the defensive side of the ball. Throughout his high school career, he combined for 17 interceptions (three returned for touchdowns) and 74 tackles over three campaigns. Egbuka nabbed six touchdown returns on special teams including five punts and one kickoff. He shined off the field as well at Steilacoom, maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school.
Recruiting
- Emeka Egbuka was a five-star recruit and the top-ranked receiver in the 2021 recruiting cycle and the No.2 recruit in Washington. He became the first five-star recruit in Steilacoom history and ranked as a consensus top-10 recruit nationally.
Skillset
- As a three-year starter for the Buckeyes, Emeka Egbuka primarily lined up out of the slot. He concluded his career with the most receptions (2015) in Ohio State history and second in receiving yards (30 behind Michael Jenkins). He commands the catch point with a feel for coverage and how to generate separation with subtle manipulation tactics at the stem. Egbuka has outstanding ball-tracking skills and can extend to haul in grabs from challenging angles. With a cerebral approach to the game and perfectionist mentality as a route-runner, Egbuka set the tone for Ohio State.
Relationship with Bryan McClendon
- Emeka Egbuka was recruited by Bucs' Receiver Coach Bryan McClendon when he was in high school and the two reminisced on those exchanges during the pre-draft process in 2025. At the Scouting Combine, the two watched film together and talked X's and O's.
