It's a new year and a new start for rookie tackle Garret Greenfield.
On Wednesday, January 1, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Greenfield to their practice squad. The team had an opening on that 17-man unit after the Dallas Cowboys signed defensive lineman Earnest Brown off of it to their active roster.
Greenfield initially entered the league this past May as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota State, signing with the Seattle Seahawks. He went to training camp and Seattle and was waived in the final roster cuts before briefly landing on the Seahawks' practice squad. He later spent three weeks on the New York Giants' practice squad.
Greenfield was part of an SDSU program that won back-to-back FCS national championships in 2022 and 2023. He was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Football Conference first-team selection, as well as a three-time FCS All-American. Greenfield played 67 games for the Jackrabbits, splitting his time almost evenly between left and right tackle.
Brown signed with the Buccaneers in May and made the active roster out of training camp, only to suffer a ribs injury three days before the season opener that forced him to injured reserve. He returned to the active roster on October 21 and appeared in three games before being waived last Saturday and then signed to the practice squad on Tuesday.
