The National Football League today announced that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 15. Mayfield has now earned Offensive Player of the Week recognition five times in his career, with three different teams, including two with Tampa Bay (Week 15, 2023).
In the Buccaneers 40-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers – which extended Tampa Bay's winning streak to four games – Mayfield completed 22-of-27 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns, earning a 135.3 passer rating. He led an offense that put up the most points, most total yards (506), most rushing yards (223) and second-most passing yards (283) vs. the Chargers' No.1-ranked scoring defense this season.
Among NFC quarterbacks in Week 15, Mayfield finished first in passer rating, completion percentage (81.5%) and yards per pass attempt (10.7), while also ranking second in passing touchdowns and third in passing yards. Mayfield, along with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, were the only quarterbacks with four-or-more passing touchdowns in a win in Week 15.
This season, Mayfield ranks third in passing touchdowns (32), third in completion percentage (70.8%), fourth in total touchdowns (35), fourth in passing yards (3,617) and sixth in passer rating (104.1). He is 1-of-4 quarterbacks in 2024 with 3,500+ passing yards and 30+ passing touchdowns, along with Joe Burrow, Jared Goff and Lamar Jackson. Mayfield and Goff are the lone quarterbacks this season that rank in the top five in each passing touchdowns, passing yards, and completion percentage. Mayfield's 32 touchdown passes this season established a new career high and are the fourth-most in a single season in franchise history. Week 15 marked Mayfield's seventh game this season with three or more passing touchdowns, which rank as the second-most such games in the NFL in 2024, trailing only Burrow (eight). He also ranks tied for second in both 300-yard passing games (four) and games with a 90+ passer rating (11).
Since arriving in Tampa Bay in 2023, Mayfield has been among the league's best, tying for the league lead in passing touchdowns (60) and ranking third in passing yards (7,661). In just his second season with the club, he is leading a Tampa Bay offense that ranks in the top five in points scored (28.8 per game), total yards (388.4), passing yards (244.0), rushing yards (144.4), first downs (22.6) and third down conversion percentage (48.3%).
The Buccaneers are the first team this season to have three different players win NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors (Bucky Irving – Week 13, Sean Tucker – Week 6) marking the first-such occurrence in franchise history.
