Baker Mayfield might want to play at SoFi Stadium more often.
On Sunday, Mayfield led the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an overwhelming 40-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, throwing for 288 yards and four touchdowns as his team scored 30 unanswered points to finish the game. For his efforts, he was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 15.
Remarkably, this is Mayfield's second appearance at SoFi Stadium that has resulted in a Player of the Week award, albeit with two different teams. Late in the 2022 season, Mayfield signed with the Rams after being released by Carolina and, just two days after arriving in Los Angeles, led the home team to a thrilling 17-16 victory over Las Vegas with a 98-yard game-winning drive. That resulted in NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Mayfield was even more prolific in Tampa Bay's critical win over the Chargers on Sunday. He completed 22 of 27 passes and finished with a 135.3 passer rating while also rushing twice for 25 yards. Mayfield led the offense on six consecutive scoring drives from the second through fourth quarters as the Buccaneers pulled away from a Los Angeles team that entered the league allowing the fewest points per game in the NFL.

Mayfield started the game with a 70-yard drive ending in a 26-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Jalen McMillan. He later threw two scoring tosses to wide receiver Mike Evans and one to running back Rachaad White. Mayfield pushed his season touchdown pass total to 32, the third most in the NFL and the fourth most in a single season in Buccaneers history.
Mayfield has now won five conference Player of the Week awards. His first came with the Cleveland Browns in Week 16 in a 26-18 win over Cincinnati in Week 16 of the 2018 campaign. A five-touchdown performance against the Bengals in Week Seven of the 2020 season netted his second such award. His first Player of the Week award as a Buccaneer came in Week 15 of last season when he became the first visiting player in the history of Green Bay's Lambeau Field to post a perfect a 158.3 passer rating.
Mayfield is the third Buccaneer to win an NFC Player of the Week award in 2024, all on offense. Running back Bucky Irving won the honor in Week 13 and running back Sean Tucker took it home in Week Seven.
