The Tampa Bay Buccaneers overwhelmed the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15 at SoFi Stadium, scoring 30 unanswered points in a 40-17 final, with a 27-0 margin after halftime. The game was Tampa Bay's fourth victory in a row, marking the fifth time since 2020 that the team has forged a four-game winning streak in the regular season.
The Buccaneers improved their regular season record to 20-5 in the months of December and January since the 2020 campaign, and now has the second-most wins and the second-best winning percentage in those two months, trailing only the Buffalo Bills in both cases. Specifically in the month of December Tampa Bay is 15-4 from 2020-24, which is a top-five mark in the NFL.

The Buccaneers opened the game with a 70-yard touchdown drive, ending in Baker Mayfield's 26-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Jalen McMillan. It was McMillan's third touchdown catch in the past two weeks and it came in a game in which he set a new career high with 75 receiving yards. McMillan's four touchdown receptions this season is the most by a Buccaneer rookie since tight end O.J. Howard had six in 2017.
Tampa Bay also scored a field goal on its second drive, one of four on the afternoon by kicker Chase McLaughlin. That marked the first time all year that a team had scored on its first two possessions against the Chargers, who came into the week with an NFL-best 15.9 points allowed per game. The Buccaneers also stung the Los Angeles Chargers for the most points (40), most total yards (506), most rushing yards (223) and second-most passing yards (283) their defense had allowed in 2024. The Buccaneers did not punt and scored on six straight possessions before running out the clock on its final drive. That marked the first time since a 46-23 win over the Panthers in Charlotte on Nov. 15, 2020 that Tampa Bay's offense scored on six consecutive possessions.
The Bucs surpassed 400 net yards for the eighth time on Sunday in Los Angeles. That is the most such occurrences by any team in the NFL in 2024. Tampa Bay also surpassed 500 yards for the second time this season, as they joined Baltimore and Detroit as the only teams to do so twice in 2024.

Rookie running back Bucky Irving, who was limited to just four carries in Week 14 against the Raiders, returned to lead the Bucs' ground game with 117 yards on 15 carries (7.8 avg.), including a long of 54 that set up a third-quarter field goal. It was his second 100-yard rushing game and his fifth with a per-carry average greater than six. Irving continues to lead all rookies in yards from scrimmage and rushing yards in 204.

Mayfield finished with the seventh four-touchdown passing game of his career, four of which have come since the joined the Buccaneers in 2023. Those four touchdowns pushed his season total to 32, establishing a new career high after he had set a personal best last season with 28. Mayfield joins Tom Brady and Jameis Winston as the only passers in franchise history with a 30-plus touchdown season, and his current mark is fourth on the team's all-time list, with three games still to play.

That computed a passer rating of 135.3, marking the third time this season he has finished a game with a rating over 130. He joins Lamar Jackson (6), Jared Goff (4) and Josh Allen (3) as the only quarterbacks to accomplish that feat at least three times in the 2024 season. Mayfield's completion percentage of 81.5% in the game was his best this season and he ranks third overall in that category in 2024. He is on pace to break the Bucs' single-season record in that category, currently held by Brian Griese at 69.3% in 2004.

Two of Mayfield's four touchdown passes went to wide receiver Mike Evans, who scored on a 57-yard catch-and-run early in the third quarter then added a 35-yard score on a dart down the middle of the field. Evans' first touchdown is the Bucs' longest play from scrimmage and longest touchdown this season. That was a good way to celebrate the receiver passing Hall of Fame safety John Lynch for the seventh most games played in franchise history, at 165.
That was part of a nine-catch, 159-yard outing for Evans, both of which were season highs. Evans' two touchdowns gave him nine on the season, which ranks fourth among all NFL players despite him missing three games due to injury. He pushed his career mark to 103 touchdown grabs, which edged him close to eighth place in that category all-time.

Evans' performance stands as the seventh time in his career that he has recorded 150-plus receiving yards and at least two touchdown catches in a game. Only three players in NFL history have done that more often.
Most Games with 150-Plus Receiving Yards, Multiple Touchdown Receptions, NFL History
- Jerry Rice: 17
- Don Maynard: 8
- Tyreek Hill: 8
- Mike Evans: 7
Evans is attempting to extend two NFL-record streaks, as he is the first player in league history to record 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 10 seasons, and the first to get to 60 reception in each of his first two seasons. His 2024 totals now stand at 749 yards on 52 receptions, which means he needs 251 more yards and eight more receptions. With three games left in the regular season, Evans would need to average 83.4 yards and 2.7 catches down the stretch to meet those marks.
Among active NFL players, only the Dolphins' Tyreek Hill has more career 150-yard receiving games than Evans. It was also the 38th 100-yard game for Evans in the regular season; he has four more in the postseason.

Tampa Bay's defense contributed heavily to the Bucs' second-half domination, and in total allowed just 206 yards on the afternoon, its lowest amount allowed in a game this year. The Chargers failed to convert on all six third-down tries and both fourth-down attempts. Over its four-game winning streak, the Buccaneers have allowed just 15.0 points per game, the fewest in the NFL over that span.
Linebacker Lavonte David led that defensive charge with a vintage David performance, pacing the team with 12 tackles and adding 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hits. One of those hits on Justin Herbert led to a fluttering downfield pass that was intercepted by cornerback Jamel Dean, which snapped a streak of 11 straight games without an interception thrown by Herbert.
David's 1.5 sacks increased his career total to 39.0 and allowed him to tie David Logan for sixth place on the team's all-time list in that category. He also surpassed 100 tackles on the season, marking the 11th time in 13 seasons that he has hit triple digits in that category. David is now the only player in the NFL who currently has amassed 100-plus tackles, at least five sacks and at least three forced fumbles. David is one of just four NFL players over the last decade to put together that combination of stats in a season, joining teammate Antoine Winfield Jr. (2023) as well as Shaquille Leonard (2018) and Thomas Davis (2015).

David shared one of his sacks on Sunday with defensive lineman Logan Hall, who also recorded another sack of his own. In his third season, Hall has posted a career-high 4.5 sacks, exceeding the total of 3.0 he had in his first two seasons combined.
Kicker Chase McLaughlin contributed a season-high 16 points to the Bucs' win in Los Angeles, making all four of his field goal attempts and also going four-for-four on extra point tries. In his second season with the Buccaneers, McLaughlin has made 25 of his 27 attempts this season and has not missed from within 50 yards. Since he came to Tampa in 2023, McLaughlin has posted the third-best field goal percentage in the NFL.
