The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' receiving corps has been hit by a string of injuries in recent weeks, but it will get some reinforcement on the practice field beginning on Thursday. The Buccaneers have designated second-year wide receiver Rakim Jarrett for return from injured reserve, opening a 21-day window in which he can practice with the team without counting against the 53-man roster. Jarrett can be activated at any point during those three weeks.
Jarrett was placed on injured reserve on August 27, the same day the Buccaneers trimmed their roster down to 53 players to start the regular season. Under a new NFL rule, teams are now allowed to place up to two players on injured reserve on the cutdown date and designate them for return. Previously, any player who was placed on IR without first making it through the cut to 53 would not be eligible to return during that season. Jarrett has already missed the minimum of four games required before he could come off of injured reserve.
Jarrett made the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland last season. He played in 10 games as a rookie and caught four passes for 60 yards. At Maryland, he played in 28 games and recorded 119 receptions for 1,552 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Wide receiver Trey Palmer has missed the last two games due to a concussion and rookie wideout Jalen McMillan just returned to action last Sunday in New Orleans after missing two games with a hamstring injury. Fellow rookie Kameron Johnson was sidelined against the Saints due to an ankle ailment
