The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added some experienced depth to their cornerback position on Wednesday, signing ninth-year veteran Troy Hill to their practice squad. Hilll was most recently with the Carolina Panthers but has also played for the Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns, logging 119 games and 60 starts.

The Buccaneers had an open spot on their 17-man practice squad after waiving rookie linebacker Kalen DeLoach on Tuesday.

Hill first entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015, but he ended his rookie season with the Rams after being claimed off waivers. He the next five seasons in Los Angeles before signing with the Browns as an unrestricted free agent in 2021. After one season in Cleveland, Hill was traded back to the Rams, for whom he played the 2022 campaign before signing with the Panthers in 2023. This season, he played in six games with two starts before being released on November 19.

Hill's career totals include nine interceptions, 41 passes defensed, 414 tackles, 3.0 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He has scored four defensive touchdowns, three on interceptions and one on a fumble return. His most productive season was with the Rams in 2020, when he started all 16 games and recorded three interceptions, two returned for scores, 10 passes defensed, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, one returned for a touchdown.

In Hill's most recent full season with Carolina in 2023, he contributed one interception, six passes defensed and 48 tackles.

The Buccaneers are currently without starting cornerback Jamel Dean, who is on injured reserve and must miss at least two more games before returning to the active roster. The Bucs also lost veteran cornerback Bryce Hall, an offseason free agency addition who was expected to be the team's third outside cornerback, to a season-ending injury in the preseason. Rookie Tyrek Funderburk has started the last two games in Dean's place and second-year man Josh Hayes played extensively at that spot in Week Eight against Atlanta.
