Mike Edwards won a Super Bowl LV ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the end of the 2020 season. Now he has a chance to help his first NFL team chase down another playoff berth.

On Thursday, the Buccaneers were awarded Edwards on a waiver claim after he was waived by the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday. That reunites the sixth-year safety with the team that drafted him in the third round in 2019. The Bucs had an open spot on the 53-man roster after waiving first-year cornerback Keenan Isaac.

Edwards played four seasons for the Buccaneers, appearing in 58 games with 23 starts. He recorded 184 tackles in that span along with seven interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns. He also had 21 passes defensed, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, 2.0 sacks, seven tackles for loss and three quarterback hits.

After the 2022 season, Edwards hit unrestricted free agency and signed with the Kansas Chiefs. He played in 17 games with five starts during the regular season, highlight by an interception and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He started all four of Kansas City's postseason game and won another ring when the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVIII.

Edwards signed with the Buffalo Bills this offseason but was released after appearing in just three games. He signed with the Titans last week but was inactive for their game against the Los Angeles Chargers and then let go on Wednesday. All players, even vested veterans are subject to the waiver system after the NFL's trade deadline has passed.

Isaac had been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster a month ago, coinciding with starting cornerback Jamel Dean going on injured reserve. He played in each of the last four games, plus a Week Two contest in Detroit after being elevated from the practice squad that weekend. He did not appear on defense but logged 37 snaps on special teams. Isaac also appeared in two games for the Buccaneers as a rookie last season, also playing exclusively on special teams.

Isaac originally joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State in 2023. He landed a spot on the team's practice squad as a rookie and remained on that unit for the entire season except for a three-week stint on the active roster in the second half of the season.
