Defensive lineman C.J. Brewer has played in each of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers first two games of the season after being elevated from the practice squad on Saturday. This week, the Buccaneers can skip that step after signing Brewer to their active roster on Friday.
To make room for Brewer on the 53-man roster, the Buccaneers also waived cornerback Keenan Isaac.
The Bucs have actually elevated both Brewer and fellow defensive lineman Mike Greene each of the past two weeks due to a rash of injuries at the position, and that issue has persisted into Week Three. Calijah Kancey will miss his third game in a row with a calf ailment, and the knee injury Vita Vea suffered last Sunday in Detroit could sideline him against Denver, too. Linemen Logan Hall and Will Gholston are also on this week's injury report.
Brewer has played 41 defensive snaps and seven special teams snaps in the first two games. He has contributed five tackles and a quarterback hit, the latter of which helped create an errant throw by Detroit's Jared Goff that was intercepted by Christian Izien in the fourth quarter in Week Two.
Originally an undrafted free agent signed by Buffalo in 2022 out of Coastal Carolina, Brewer also got into two games for the Bills as a rookie, recording two tackles. He first joined the Buccaneers in May of 2023 and spent most of the ensuing season on Tampa Bay's practice squad.
Isaac re-signed with the Buccaneers on September 10 after a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers. An undrafted free agent out of Alabama State in 2023, Isaac spent his entire rookie season on Tampa Bay's practice squad and appeared in two regular season games after weekend elevations. He went back to training camp with the Buccaneers this summer but was waived in the roster cutdown to 53.
