The Tampa Bay Buccaneers thought Troy Hill, a midseason addition, could add some veteran depth to their young cornerback room. That could still happen, but not for at least four more weeks.
On Friday, the Buccaneers placed Hill on injured reserve, where he joins two other defensive backs in Jordan Whitehead and Bryce Hall. Hill had been on this week's injury report with foot and knee injuries and was not able to practice on Thursday or Friday. Players placed on I.R. during the season must miss a minimum of four games before they are eligible to return to the active roster. Tampa Bay has five games remaining in the regular season.
Hill was signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad on October 30 shortly after being released by the Carolina Panthers. He spent two games on that unit before being promoted to the active roster on November 18. He has since played in two games, exclusively on injured reserve.
Prior to coming to Tampa, Hill had played for the Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns since 2015. He has appeared in 121 games with 60 starts, amassing 414 tackles, nine interceptions, 41 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and four defensive touchdowns.
