Already the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' all-time leader in virtually every receiving category, future Hall of Famer Mike Evans is now coming after the franchise's kickers.
On Sunday, in a Week Four game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Raymond James Stadium, Evans caught a 2-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter for his third score of the season. That increased his career points scored total to 596 and pushed him past former kicker Martin Gramatica (592) for the most in team history.
That feat also put Evans in a very small NFL fraternity, as he is now just the third non-kicker to currently hold a franchise lead in points scored. Former running back Emmitt Smith is the Dallas Cowboys' all-time leading scorer and former wide receiver Jerry Rice occupies the same spot in San Francisco 49ers history.
Evans' touchdown catch against Philadelphia was the 97th of his career, putting him in 12th place in that category in NFL history. He is now just two behind Don Hutson for 11th place and three away from becoming the 11th player in league annals to catch 100 or more touchdown passes. Evans also has one touchdown on a fumble recovery and four two-point conversions to get him to his total of 596 points.
Evans began the game as the Buccaneers' all-time leader in receptions (772), receiving yards (11,800), touchdown receptions, total touchdowns and 100-yard receiving games (36). He is also the only player in NFL history to record at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of the first 10 seasons of his career. He is tied with Randy Moss for the second most 1,000-yard seasons overall, behind only Rice and his 14.
