The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will open their 2024 regular season on Sunday against the Washington Commanders, and they will do so without two-thirds of their starting defensive line. Third-year defender Logan Hall suffered a foot injury in practice the previous week and did not participate in any practices this week. Second-year man Calijah Kancey then sustained a calf injury at the end of the last practice in preparation for Sunday's game and was ruled out on Saturday.
With defensive lineman Earnest Brown also landing on injured reserve, the Buccaneers signed Ben Stille off the Arizona practice squad and then elevated linemen C.J. Brewer and Mike Greene from their own practice squad for the game.
Wide receiver Trey Palmer was considered questionable for the opener due to a concussion but he has been cleared and is suiting up for the game. The Bucs will keep all five of their receivers active, as well as three running backs and three tight ends.
The Buccaneers and Commanders submitted their list of inactives at 2:55 p.m. ET on Sunday, 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff of their shared season-opener at Raymond James Stadium. After elevating Brewer and Greene, the Buccaneers had 55 available players and thus had to name seven inactives to get down to the game-day limit of 48. The Commanders released wide receiver Byron Pringle on Friday, placed quarterback Marcus Mariota on injured reserve on Saturday and then elevated linebacker Nick Bellore and defensive tackle Sheldon Day from the practice squad. That put their game-day roster at 54, meaning they had to designate six inactives.
