Trenton Gill and Ryan Miller Signed to Active Roster

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today placed wide receiver Chris Godwin on Injured Reserve. In addition, the team signed punter Trenton Gill and wide receiver Ryan Miller from the practice squad to the active roster, and added punter Jack Browning and wide receiver Dennis Houston to its practice squad.

From Weeks 1-7, Godwin led the NFL in receptions (50) and receiving first downs (33), while ranking second in receiving yards (576) and tying for third in receiving touchdowns (five).

Gill (6-4, 219) was signed to the Buccaneers practice squad on Sept. 24. Gill appeared in Weeks 4, 5 and 7 for Tampa Bay, punting a combined eight times for a gross average of 41.3 yards per punt and a net average of 38.3 yards per punt. He originally entered the league as a seventh-round selection (No. 255 overall) by the Chicago Bears in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 37 career games between the Bears and Buccaneers, punting 141 times for a gross punting average of 45.8 and a net punting average of 38.5. The Hillsborough, North Carolina, native played collegiately at North Carolina State (2017-21), punting 173 times for a 45.8 gross average – the highest mark in program history. He wears No. 16 for Tampa Bay.

Miller (6-1, 209) originally entered the NFL as a college free agent with the Buccaneers in May of 2023 and has played in two career games for Tampa Bay, notching one reception for 39 yards in the Week 6 win over the New Orleans Saints. Miller played tight end at Furman University (2018-22), appearing in 53 games and bringing in 151 receptions for 2,146 yards and a program record 28 touchdowns. He was the first player in Furman program history to be named an All-American three times (2020-22), including earning first-team honors in 2020 and consensus first-team honors in 2022. He wears No. 81 for Tampa Bay.

Browning (5-11, 190) entered the league as a college free agent with the Buffalo Bills in 2024, spending time this past offseason with the Bills and Baltimore Ravens. He began his collegiate career at Grossmont College (2019-20) prior to playing three seasons at San Diego State (2021-23). He handled both punting and kicking duties in his final two seasons and earned All-Mountain West honors twice, in addition to being named the 2022 Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year. In 38 games for the Aztecs, Browning punted 122 times for 5,584 yards (45.8 average), while connecting on 35-of-47 field goal attempts (74.5%) and all 53 of his extra point attempts. The Lakeside, California, native will wear No. 5 for Tampa Bay.

Houston (5-11, 190) entered the league as a college free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022 and has since spent time on the practice squads of the Cowboys and the New York Giants, appearing in two career games – both with Dallas in 2022 – recording two receptions for 16 yards. Houston began his collegiate career at Houston Baptist (2017) before later transferring to Fullerton College (2018) and Western Illinois (2019-21). He was named first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference in each of his final two seasons at Western Illinois, while also garnering Associated Press third-team All-America recognition as a senior in 2021. Across 25 games played at Western Illinois, Houston hauled in 169 receptions for 2,031 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns, adding two rushing touchdowns. The San Antonio native will wear No. 89 for Tampa Bay.
