After back-to-back road games, the Buccaneers will host the Raiders on Sunday, December 8 at Raymond James Stadium. The Bucs have won two of the past three matchups with Las Vegas. The Bucs and Falcons both sit at a 6-6 record, but Tampa Bay remains in second place in the NFC South due to two head-to-head losses to Atlanta. Against Las Vegas, the Bucs will strive to continue their winning streak following a 26-23 overtime victory over the Carolina Panthers. Following kickoff, here are five Buccaneers to keep an eye on:
Lavonte David
Brock Bowers has taken the league by storm as a rookie and has become the Raiders most productive weapon despite a revolving door at the quarterback position. Bowers leads the NFL in receptions with 84. He has 100-plus receiving yards and one receiving touchdown in two of his last three games and his 884 receiving yards rank fourth in the NFL. He is a tight end with the skillset of a receiver. Bowers can flex out wide, is adept on reverses and jet sweeps and knows how to sit in zone. He quickly accelerates in-and-out of breaks and is physical, quickly getting north-south off checkdowns. Bowers has an innate feel for how to create spacing as a route runner. With his speed and ball skills, he creates mismatches all over the field and is a home-run threat. Lavonte David, the Bucs' ageless wonder at linebacker, will likely face off against Bowers during Sunday's contest. Tampa Bay has struggled at times down the stretch with tight ends over the middle of the field and containing Bowers will be a top-priority for Todd Bowles' unit. In three career games against Las Vegas, David has racked up 30 tackles, three tackles for loss, 27 solo tackles and one quarterback hit. He is highly touted as one of the best coverage linebackers in the game with fluid hips in transition and this will be a key matchup in Week 14.
Tristan Wirfs
Maxx Crosby leads the Raiders in sacks with 7.5 and has the most tackles for loss in the NFL since 2019. He has played every defensive snap in six consecutive games for the Raiders (387), setting the tone. Crosby has accumulated 19 quarterback hits in 2024 and 27 sacks over the previous two seasons. He is relentless in his approach in the trenches and plays with an urgency every single play. Crosby is the epitome of a game-wrecker and has a counter for nearly every block he sees. With a lethal spin move and an insatiable appetite for opposing quarterbacks, Crosby will be out to disrupt Baker Mayfield on Sunday. His conditioning is second to none and he will go up against Bucs' Pro Bowl left tackle Tristan Wirfs. Wirfs returned against the Panthers after missing a game with a knee injury and has not allowed a sack in 2024. He is a natural mover in space with rare athleticism and excels on pulls and lead blocks. Wirfs is a technician with superb strength and is quick out of his stance. He has the power to press opposing defenders off his frame and this will be a pivotal one-on-one come Sunday.
Vita Vea
Vita Vea is tied with linemate Calijah Kancey for the Bucs' sack lead with 6.0. Vea, an imposing nose tackle, often lines up against the opposing team's center. Offenses around the NFL slide additional protection to try and account for Vea, a menacing 350-pound penetrator. Vea overwhelms at the line of scrimmage with immense power, discarding grown men like rag dolls in his path to the quarterback. He has deceptive pursuit quickness and quickly sheds blockers. This week, he will face rookie Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon. The Raiders selected Powers-Johnson with the 12th pick of the second round in the 2024 draft. He was the second center selected after the Buccaneers took Graham Barton in the first round. Powers-Johnson plays with a competitive disposition and possesses elite upper-body strength. At Oregon, Powers-Johnson was proficient at limiting A-gap blitzers with strong hands and he explodes out of his stance in pass protection. He is a fluid mover in space and this battle in the trenches will be critical.
Mike Evans
Mike Evans has picked up where he left off in his return from a multi-week absence due to a hamstring injury. He caught 13 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown during the Bucs' two-game winning streak. Against the Panthers, Evans caught eight passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. He made a sensational one-handed grab off a fade in the first quarter that provided the Buccaneers with a 7-0 lead. From second-and-goal, Evans' fended off Jaycee Horn with his left hand and made a jaw-dropping grab with his right, while managing to get both feet down in bounds. Evans, a future Hall of Famer, is effective after the catch with long strides and is physical in contested catch situations. Evans is a high-point aficionado and is a player that defensive coordinators around the NFL have to gameplan around. In two career games against Las Vegas, Evans has tallied 14.5 yards per reception, and he will look to continue his dominance in Week 14.
Rachaad White
With Bucky Irving dealing with a hip injury, Rachaad White could have a heavier workload against the Raiders. Tampa Bay's 5.1 rushing yards per attempt this season is the team's highest average through 12 games in club history. In addition, the Bucs currently rank fourth in the NFL in yards per rush (5.1) after finishing 32nd in that category in each of the previous two seasons. Against the Panthers, White accumulated 76 yards on 11 totes, including a 38-yard run. On the counter play, Cody Mauch and Luke Goedeke opened the crease on pulls and White accelerated after cutting inside behind Goedeke's block. White is a productive receiver out of the backfield and is adept at generating RAC off checkdowns. He plays with excellent balance and has a variety of maneuvers in his toolkit to avoid tacklers: spin moves, hurdles and stiff-arms. White can beat linebackers to the edge with deceptive burst and Sunday he will vie to make his presence felt.
