HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES
(On why QB Baker Mayfield hasn't been using rollouts and bootlegs like he was earlier in the season)
"Every game is different – they're not going to be there every game for us. We go by what the team is going to give us. Going into the ballgame, they were rushing four and it was good for him to sit back in the pocket. When they didn't really send more than we could block, he had time to throw the football – we were okay there. We've just got to get open down the field and we've got to sustain longer. The plays getting out of the backfield, you could see going up the field and going into the game [that] they were pretty fast on the outside so we dropped him back a little more."
(On if he's considered replacing S Ryan Neal with DB Dee Delaney after Neal gave up a long pass play for the third straight game)
"I think if you knew what the coverage was supposed to be, you wouldn't be blaming Ryan."
(On if he can elaborate on what the coverage was supposed to be)
"No, we talk about everything in the meetings. We handled it."
(On if he thought there should have been a defensive pass interference called on the final play of the game last night)
"They're all like that at the end of the ballgame. When the ball is in the air, you're not really looking for flags. The defense is trying to box out, the offense is trying to get position. Very rarely are you going to see a flag on that play. You either make the catch and get it up in the air and get a tipped ball or you don't."
(On when he knew about the status of NT Vita Vea and DL Logan Hall prior to the game last night)
"Vita warmed up. He was fine straight ahead but he had problems going side-to-side. The groin gave him problems, so we had to keep him out. Logan had to fight through it. He was kind of sore before the game. He wanted to play. I'm surprised he went as long as he did before he went out in the fourth quarter. We kind of knew that both guys were nicked up. We had our other guys ready to go."
(On if he's considered playing S Ryan Neal more up in the box)
"He is better in the box, but we're not giving him anything that he can't excel at when we put him back there. We're not asking him to do anything difficult from that aspect. We've just got to read our keys better all the way around."
(On if he's considered playing cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis III in man coverage more)
"I would love to, but being that there [are] five receivers and we don't have five man-to-man guys, it's kind of hard. You put some other people in danger when you do that. We played a little more man last night than we normally play, but we've got to think of everybody and everybody's situation, not just those two guys."
(On what he saw from the pass rush last night)
"We didn't get much pressure at all. I thought across the board we struggled a little bit. We've got to have better from all the way around – outside to inside."
(On the status of LT Tristan Wirfs)
"He's sore. He hasn't come in yet, so I don't have an update on him yet. We'll evaluate him once he comes in and see where he's at."
(On the lack of early targets for WR Mike Evans and if he's more productive when the offense goes up-tempo)
"There's always thought in doing tempo more, but when we did tempo more in the pass, that's where a lot more penalties occurred. They're occurring without the tempo. We'll look into getting back into it."
(On what's stopping the offense from being where they need to be)
"If it's not missing a block here and there, then it's a penalty here or there. We've got to clean it up together. It's got to be clicking on all cylinders. When we get all our blocks, we get penalties; when we don't get penalties, we don't get all of our blocks here and there. Last week, it was one thing, this week, it's another thing. We've just got to keep chopping at it and get better at it. That's as best as those can be – if everything clicks at the same time."
(On his assessment of QB Baker Mayfield's performance)
"He's doing his part. He's doing everything he can to try and make plays. Sometimes it's him, sometimes it's not. It's an offense as a whole. Like you said, it's a whole entire offensive thing – it's not just laid on Baker. It's not laid on Baker. Everybody has got to execute and everybody has got to do their job."
(On WR Trey Palmer's holding penalties)
"The over-aggressiveness. He's a very good blocker and he gets on his blocks very well. Not knowing where the ball carrier is behind him, he's got to do a better job of letting go when that guy comes outside when he feels that DB moving that way. Other than that, he'll be fine. I think he's a young player, he's maturing every week and we like where he's at. We've just got to get the holding down."
(On RB Rachaad White's work load)
"We like where he's at in the passing game. We'd like to get somebody else in there a little bit to give him a spell so he can be fresh in the second half."
(On if S Antoine Winfield Jr. is the team MVP at this point in the season)
"The way he's playing right now is unbelievable. For being so young of a player – he's still early in his career – the things he's doing right now is kind of like a seventh or eighth year player that's doing it that's been around for a while. The energy he has, the freshness he brings to work everyday and out on the field is just unbelievable."
(On if Winfield's play is a testament to his skills, intelligence, or a combination of both)
"It's a combination of all – skills, intelligence, upbringing, football background, all the coaches he had over his career. I think it's a testament to everybody that helped him along the way."
(On the defensive woes on third down)
"Not executing the blitz and sometimes not executing the coverage. It goes hand in hand. We can't rush the passer without covering and we can't cover without rushing the passer. When one is good, the other one breaks down; when the other one is good, something else breaks down. We've got to be on the same page and we've got to communicate there."
(On if everybody did their job on the Hail Mary play at the end of the game)
"Other than catch the ball, yeah. We got a shot at the end zone, everybody was there. It's one of [those] things – [if] the ball bounces the right way…It didn't happen that way."
