In 2021, in just his second season playing right tackle in the NFL, Tristan Wirfs was named a first-team Associated Press All-Pro. Now, in his second season playing left tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Wirfs has once again received that prestigious honor.
The Associated Press announced its 2024 All-Pro Team on Friday, and Wirfs was the top choice at left tackle. The team was selected by a panel of 50 NFL writers and broadcasters. Wirfs is the first player in the history of the All-Pro award to earn first-team recognition at both left and right tackle.
Already the first offensive lineman in team history to receive first-team AP All-Pro honors, Wirfs now joins very elite company in Buccaneers franchise history. He is just the sixth player at any position to receive this honor multiple times in his career, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Derrick Brooks (five), Warren Sapp (four), Rondé Barber (3) and John Lynch (two), in addition to Mike Alstott (three).
Since entering the NFL as the 13th overall pick in the 2020 draft, Wirfs has amassed an impressive array of accolades. He was voted into the Pro Bowl for the fourth straight time this year, and he also has a second-team APAll-Pro selection in 2022 and a PFWA All-Rookie Team selection in 2020. Wirfs also owns a Super Bowl ring as a starter on the Buccaneers team that beat Kansas City in Super Bowl LV.
According to Pro Football Focus, Wirfs did not allow a sack in the 16 games in which he played in 2024. Across 1,014 offensive snaps he was charged with yielding just one quarterback hit and 12 pressures. PFF also gave Wirfs a 93.7 pass-blocking grade this season, highest among any qualifying offensive lineman this season. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Wirfs allowed a pressure rate of 4.7% in 2024, second lowest in the NFL and had the lowest pressure rate (5.0%) in the league when blocking one-on-one, among players with at leats 500 pass-blocking snaps.
Wirfs was a key cog in a 2024 Buccaneers offense that generated some of the NFL's most impressive production. Tampa Bay's offense ranked fourth in scoring (29.5 points per game), third in total yards (399.6), fourth in rushing yards (149.2) and third in passing yards (250.4). The Buccaneers were the only team in the NFL to rank in the top five in both rushing and passing yards.
