A look at the previous week’s highlights during joint practices with the Jacksonville Jaguars

Evans Blitz

Mike Evans, Chris Godwin Garner Attention

Against the Jaguars in two joint practice sessions, veterans Mike Evans and Chris Godwin spearheaded the offensive efforts at Miller Electric Center. Both were back to their old tricks, bolstering the offensive output in the suffocating Florida heat. Evans, a future Hall of Famer, made his presence felt on a quick flat route during drills and during the red zone period with a couple touchdowns. He possesses physicality to power through jams and creates late separation with route variations. Known for his back-shoulder grabs, Evans has achieved both consistency and longevity and he continued the trend against the Jaguars.

Chris Godwin lit up the field with energizing plays, including a lethal out-and-up and dig route that left the Jags' defenders reeling. Mayfield threw 83 completions to Godwin last season and their synergy was evident in Jacksonville. After transitioning back into playing primarily in the slot in three-receiver sets in 2024, Godwin could see a load increase. The last time he filled that role in 2022, Godwin compiled 104 catches. Even more impressive that year considering he was still working towards peak form after the ACL/MCL injury he sustained late in 2021. Godwin is back to form in 2024 and looks to be the offensive catalyst, helping to bridge the gap between the run and pass with his blocking ability and versatile skillset. The RAC artist is a crosser and slant aficionado, and he can elevate the Bucs horizontal-stretch game on sweeps and end-arounds.
