The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today elevated defensive lineman Mike Greene and wide receiver Sterling Shepard from the practice squad to the active roster for Tampa Bay's Week 3 matchup against the Denver Broncos. It marks the third elevation of the season for Greene and the first for Shepard.
In addition, the Buccaneers have downgraded wide receiver Kameron Johnson and nose tackle Vita Vea to OUT for Sunday's game against Denver.
Greene (6-3, 293) has appeared in each of Tampa Bay's first two games this season, recording one tackle in both the Week 1 win over Washington and the Week 2 victory at Detroit. He originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Buccaneers on May 16, 2022, following his participation in Rookie Minicamp as a tryout player. Greene has appeared in 12 career games for Tampa Bay, making two starts and logging eight tackles. The Richmond, Virginia, native played collegiately at James Madison University (2017-21), where he appeared in 58 career games and recorded 177 tackles (39.0 for loss), 18.0 sacks, four passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He wears No. 91 for Tampa Bay.
Shepard (5-10, 198) originally entered the league as a second-round pick (No. 40 overall) by the New York Giants in the 2016 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 90 career games, all with the Giants, making 74 starts and totaling 372 receptions for 4,095 yards and 23 receiving touchdowns. Shepard concluded his time in New York ranking fifth all-time in franchise history in receptions. The Heritage Hall, Oklahoma, native played collegiately at the University of Oklahoma (2012-15), appearing in 50 career games and amassing 233 receptions for 3,482 yards and 26 receiving touchdowns. Shepard received first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2014 and 2015, and was named a first-team All-American in 2015 after establishing career highs with 86 receptions, 1,288 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns with Baker Mayfield as his quarterback.
