BAKER MAYFIELD VOTED FEDEX AIR PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK 1

The National Football league today announced that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was voted the FedEx Air Player of the Week for Week 1. Mayfield has now earned the award three times in his career (also, Week 13, 2020 and Week 15, 2023). He became the fourth quarterback in team history to win FedEx Air Player of the Week accolades multiple times with Tampa Bay.

Mayfield opened the season with a league-best quarterback performance, completing 24-of-30 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions, earning a 146.4 passer rating. In addition to being 1-of-2 players in the league to account for four touchdowns in Week 1, Mayfield led all quarterbacks in both passer rating and passing touchdowns, tied for the league lead in passing first downs (15), and ranked second in completion percentage (80.0%), fourth in passing yards and fourth in yards per pass attempt (9.6).

In tandem with new Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen, Mayfield led the Buccaneers to points on 7-of-8 offensive drives (87.5%) in which he was in at quarterback. Mayfield's 146.4 passer rating denoted the highest single-game mark by an opposing passer vs. Washington since Y.A. Tittle's 151.4 passer rating on 10/28/1962 (min. 30 att.).

As an offense, Tampa Bay led the NFL in Week 1 in third-down conversion percentage (69.2%), finishing second in points scored (37), fourth in passing yards (280), fourth in yards per play (6.4), fourth in net yards per pass attempt (9.3) and seventh in total yards (392).

Since arriving in Tampa Bay in 2023, Mayfield ranks third in passing touchdowns (32), sixth in touchdown-to-interception ratio (3.2), eighth in passing first downs (203), ninth in passing yards (4,333) and ninth in passer rating (97.5). Mayfield's 111.8 passer rating since Week 14 of last season, including playoffs, leads all qualified quarterbacks during that span.
