After multiple practices that featured no pads and several in "spiders," The Buccaneers had their third padded workout on Thursday in the suffocating Florida heat. During the near-two-hour practice featuring 11-on-11 teamwork, positional drills and one-on-ones, several players made their presence felt on the practice fields. Here are the top takeaways from the Bucs' seventh practice:

K.J. Britt Delivers Thud

On Thursday, inside linebacker K.J. Britt delivered a hit that reverberated throughout the AdventHealth Training Center. As running back D.J. Williams caught a pass out of the backfield, Britt delivered a blow and knocked the ball out with a 'pro thud.' Britt will play a significant role in the Bucs' defense in 2024 next to Lavonte David as the Mike linebacker. He showcased his physicality on Day Seven of training camp, sending the defensive sideline into cheers. Britt became the enforcer, energizing the rest of the unit.

Payne Durham Two-Touchdown Performance

During red zone work, tight end Payne Durham caught two touchdown passes from Baker Mayfield. He became a big target in the end zone for Mayfield and created separation by boxing out defenders. Durham posted 58 yards on five receptions for an average of 11.6 yards per reception last season during his rookie campaign. He finishes blocks in the run game and can catch throws outside of his frame. Last season, the Buccaneers were operating out of two tight end sets 28.3% of the time (13th) leading into the Divisional Round and on Thursday, the Bucs showcased an uptick in 12 personnel with two tight ends on the field to create mismatches.

Tristan Wirfs Back in the Mix

All eyes were on the newly-extended left tackle on Thursday, Tristan Wirfs. He inked a five-year deal, making him the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history and the highest paid player in franchise history. The stalwart transitioned from right to left tackle at the outset of the 2023 season and earned a Pro Bowl nod for his stellar play. Wirfs made the move look effortless and anchored the line. During contract negotiations, Wirfs chose not to hold out and attended every training camp practice to show support and attended every meeting. Even though he was not participating in full-team drills, Wirfs was getting invaluable mental reps. On Thursday, with an added pep in his step, Wirfs was back in the mix with his linemates. The two-time All-Pro veteran will command the unit and solidify the frontline, protecting Baker Mayfield's blindside.
