TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS TRANSCRIPT: HEAD COACH BRUCE ARIANS 12-10-21

(Opening remarks)

"The only person out is Jordan Whitehead. It's been a good week of work and [I'm] looking forward to a hell of a challenge."

(On how he felt about center Ryan Jensen returning to practice on Friday)

"Ryan is tough. I knew he'd be back. It's great to see it though."

(On WR Mike Evans' blocking being a key to screen plays directed to Chris Godwin working)

"Oh, there's doubt. Mike or whoever the receiver is blocking, that's the key block, then getting those linemen out there. But Chris is so quick to the tuck, that's why he's so good at it."

(On the progress of WR Jaelon Darden and CB Jamel Dean in the concussion protocol)

"Yeah, we'll do some simulation contact right now and hopefully they'll both pass."

(On if CB Richard Sherman will play on Sunday)

"Yeah, right now he's scheduled to play. Hopefully he doesn't."

(On what he can get out of the film of Buffalo's game on Monday night)

"Nothing. Nothing. You go back and look at all the other teams that were closer to you and the games that they played. Todd [Bowles] has got a great bead on them, and the same thing defensively."

(On if he will be able to coach from the sideline with his Achilles tendon injury)

"Oh yeah, I'll be there. Pissed off, but I'll be there."

(On LS Zach Triner being activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list)

"Yeah, he's the first one to beat the 10-day thing. That's a good sign."

(On what problems are posed by Buffalo QB Josh Allen, who is 'big, strong and athletic')

"You just named a bunch of them, plus he can throw the sh-t out of it. He's got great weapons around him too. There's no play that's ever over until the ball [carrier] is tackled. Brian Daboll does a great job of his quarterback runs and he likes it. Some quarterbacks don't like that; he likes it, and it shows [in] the way he plays."

(On how CB Richard Sherman has looked training at safety and if he would only play there in an emergency)

"Yeah, I would hope so. He's smart, he's a DB, so it's not that hard. It's just making the calls and checks and motions. Hopefully he doesn't have to play safety in this game."

(On if it's challenging at this time of the year to balance preparing for games but getting players rest)

"It's December now, so you have to get them to Sunday as fresh as possible and as ready as possible. And we learn a lot in our walk-throughs, we do a good job in walk-throughs. Probably – I won't guarantee walk-throughs on Wednesdays for the rest of the way but it's a very good [possibility]. It was needed this week."

(On if it's teams that play good defense and run the ball that succeed at this part of the season)

"I would say teams that play real good defense and score a lot of points. They don't give a sh-t how you do it."

(On how important it is to have a running back like Leonard Fournette at this time of year)

"I think Leonard and 'Ro' (Ronald Jones II). 'Ro' got sick last week. Both those guys are running the ball but we're blocking really well. I think our backfield room is solid. 'Gio' [Bernard] had a good ballgame, too. 'Lenny' is playing really [well]."

(On if the 13 straight passes to start the game in Atlanta was scripted)

"It's just how it went. We had four or five runs called and they weren't very good runs so Tom got us in a better play."

(On the 80-degree temperatures expected for Sunday's game)

"It should be beneficial to us. It's going to be warm for them, that's for sure. You can only turn the heat up in your building so high without dehydrating everybody. I've been down that road, too. So yeah, it's nice to have home field advantage."

(On if it's nice to know they can push the tempo a bit on a team that may not be used to the heat)

"Yeah, that's been good to us the last few weeks."

(On if it is an advantage for the Buccaneers that the Bills won't be used to the heat)

"It's huge. I mean, it's huge. Hopefully it stays hot when the sun goes down."

(On Darnell Stapleton, the new offensive line coach at Florida who played for the Steelers in 2008 when Arians was the team's offensive coordinator)

"Very, very bright player. It's a shame he had a bad knee, so he didn't get to play for very long. But he was extremely bright, extremely tough and you knew he'd be a hell of a coach."
