HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES
(On the health status of NT Vita Vea)
"He did some things. He's gotten a lot better. We'll see how much better he gets until Sunday. If not, we'll put him down; if we're feeling good, we'll see where he is."
(On the health status of RT Luke Goedeke)
"He's progressing, but he won't play Sunday."
(On if Goedeke is the only player ruled out for Sunday)
"[Calijah] Kancey and [Antoine] Winfield Jr. [too]."
(On if OL Justin Skule will fill in for RT Luke Goedeke)
"Yeah, he'll start out there, but we have some rotations if we need to rotate them."
(On what the offensive line rotation looks like)
"I'll let them figure it out Sunday."
(On the health status of WR Kameron Johnson)
"He's questionable right now, at this time."
(On how S Antoine Winfield Jr. is progressing)
"He's progressing."
(On if today's practice was a tougher practice than usual)
"It's the same Friday we've been running for six years."
(On Denver CB Patrick Surtain II)
"He covers everything. He has an outstanding ability – he has great feet, he's tough, he's great on the line, he's great off the ball, he's good in zone [coverage] and he's good in man[-to-man] and he'll tackle. He's got great ball skills. Any time you face a guy like that, it's going to be dangerous."
(On how his team practiced after an exciting road win)
"It's Week 2. We've got a 24-hour rule. Win, lose, or draw, we've got to move on to the next opponent. We're just in the beginning of the season right now. We have a lot of things we can get better at to work on to be better and that's what we're working on."
(On the team's veteran leadership)
"They've been outstanding. Between Baker [Mayfield], Lavonte [David], Mike [Evans], Chris [Godwin], Vita [Vea], 'Win' (Antoine Winfield Jr.) – those guys have been great when the young guys come in [and] making sure they're on top of their job and they know everything. They treat them with help when they need help and they treat them like vets when they need to be vets and make plays. We give you a rookie symbol on day one – after that, you're just like everybody else."
(On how much CB Zyon McCollum's mental approach to the game has improved his play)
"It's helped him a great deal. Any time you're a rookie and coming in and then you're a second year and then to your third year, mentally, you need to get better. He's gotten better all three years coming into this year. He's been athletic his whole life, but he's understanding the game, and it's slowed down for him."
(On Assistant Secondary Coach Rashad Johnson helping McCollum's development)
"It's not just Rashad – he's more with the nickels. Coach [Kevin] Ross does a great job with Zyon. Coach Johnson does a great job, as well. He can relate to all of them; Coach Ross can relate to all of them. We have a slew of guys back there that he can go to for help."
