TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 8-24-24

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On if he knows of any players besides WR Rakim Jarrett that might start the season in Injured Reserve)

"Not at this time. Chase Edmonds will probably start there, as well. Those two for sure. Everybody else is in play."

(On the play of LB Antonio Grier, DL C.J. Brewer, DB Tavierre Thomas on Friday night)

"I thought they showed up. They flashed some big plays. They tackled hard and had some big-play ability. It's going to be a tough swing. I think a few of them helped themselves, and a few of them helped themselves over the past couple of weeks."

(On when the team will start making cuts in advance of Tuesday's roster cutdown deadline)

"We'll process it today, I think. Probably starting tomorrow, into Monday, we'll start making those decisions."

(On linebackers J.J. Russell and Kalen DeLoach not playing last night)

"They were dinged up. They got dinged up last week and were pretty sore. We kind of used everybody we had – we were kind of down in numbers. If one more guy went down, we probably would have been playing with another d-lineman or a DB (defensive back) back there. They were dinged up."

(On if any undrafted rookie defensive backs stood out last night)

"[Marcus] Banks had some big hits, I know that for sure. The rest of them covered well. [There are] going to be some tough decisions. A few made some splashes early that [have] been consistent for us that we're really looking at. Hopefully we can keep one of them."

(On if the wide receiver room depth chart has been finalized)

"[There are] still some decisions to be made. We got a good look at Kam [Johnson] last night for the first time – he did some really good things running and catching the football. Cody [Thompson] has been consistent all preseason [and Ryan] Miller has shown some things, as well. Those three guys…We've really got some decisions to make there."

(On trying to retain some of the team's own cuts onto the practice squad)

"The guys you probably want on your practice squad, you probably release last. Hopefully, with everybody doing cuts at the same time, it's hard to get a guy on the street. You kind of go back with the guys that you know. It's going to be hard to get them through the practice squad, especially if they've got a lot of tape. Every team has to deal with that. I'm sure they have the same decisions to make and they like a few guys, too. Typically, teams usually go with the guys they had in camp, as opposed to teaching guys a new system and coming in, unless they really see something. The decisions that have to be made are going to be very tough."

(On if the team will keep two or three quarterbacks)

"I'm pretty sure it'll shake itself out – we're leaning that way. We haven't made final decisions. We have to weigh it against different positions. It's not so much of the guys going against each other at the same position, but you also have to measure the strength of the last wideout versus the strength of the last outside [linebacker] or the last inside [linebacker] or the last offensive lineman or vice versa. There's a lot of decisions to be made. The competition is not just against the same position, but it's against other positions that might have value, as well.'

(On DL Logan Hall and RT Luke Goedeke)

"Both [are] very tough. They have the same things they need to do to get better. When they both use their hands, they're very good football players. Logan has length, Luke has length and toughness – they both have toughness. When they try to brawl and just use their bodies, they in trouble technically. When they use their hands, they're very hard to stop."

(On QB Kyle Trask's growth over the last four years)

"Just from a maturity standpoint, adjusting to the different schemes and the playbook and being confident out there – making the right reads and playing, whether he's behind the first line, second line, or third line, he makes plays. He gets receivers open. He's not necessarily throwing to Mike [Evans] and Chris [Godwin] all the time. He's getting guys open, he's directing traffic, he's getting valuable experience. He played behind [Tom] Brady, now he's playing behind Baker [Mayfield] – he's just had the unfortunate opportunity to go behind a couple of quarterbacks. We have a lot of trust in him. He really sees the game well. We would not have a problem playing him."

(On QB Kyle Trask's place on the roster without having seen much regular season playing time)

"Just because you're experienced doesn't mean you're good. You might know the playbook but if you can't carry out the plays, it doesn't make it any better."

(On if he knows what he's looking for in terms of special teams players given the new kick off rules)

"I think we do. I think we kind of know the direction we're heading in and the things we want to do when it comes to that. We'll probably tweak, roster-wise, accordingly."

(On how much the final preseason game can be a springboard for players on the roster bubble)

"It's not just the good performance, it's doing the little things. You can make a big play and not do the little things right on a lot of other plays. It's the totality of what you're doing when you're out there on the field. If you make a splash play and you have five or six mental errors or technical errors somewhere else, it doesn't get blown out of proportion. It shows you can't trust that person going into a game yet. It doesn't mean they didn't make a splash, but they still have some things to work on. You've got to weigh that, as well."

(On how much credit Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen deserves in how the rushing attack looks right now)

"He gets a ton of credit. Obviously, [Kevin] Carberry and [Brian] Picucci do, as well – all of the offensive coaches, because the receiver block as well. Again, it's early, it's preseason, btu structurally, they're playing faster, they're getting up to the second level. We've got to continue that as the season goes. Structurally, right now, everything is in place. Liam gets a big credit for it."

(On clarifying whether the team might keep two or three quarterbacks)

"I said we had a decision and we know where we want to go, I didn't say we were leaning one way or the other."

(On how comfortable he feels carrying six outside linebackers on the opening day roster)

"We haven't made a decision yet whether we're taking four or five or six, but all of those guys made splashes in camp. I thought [Chris] Braswell [Jr.] made great progress, mentally, from understanding the scheme. I thought Jose [Ramirez] came a long way as far as understanding the scheme and making big splashes. I think [Markees] Watts has gotten better, holding up on blocks and playing the run game. All three got better, technically, as the weeks went on with Yaya [Diaby] and Joe [Tryon-Shoyinka] out. Depending on how many we keep or who we keep or how we keep them, I think they'll help us."

(On specialists Jake Camarda and Chase McLaughlin)

"It's not an area I'm very happy with right now, obviously. Jake has to punt it better. [This is] two weeks in a row where he didn't punt well. Chase came back around. We'll see about the punting situation or adding somebody to the practice squad, but we've definitely got to get better in that area."
