HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES
(On if he ever found out why OLB Randy Gregory didn't report to training camp)
"No, I never found out. I wish him the best. We'll move on from there. You can't miss what you never had."
(On the depth at offensive tackle, and his thoughts on OL Elijah Klein's performance on Saturday)
"With injuries – with 'Skuley' (Justin Skule) down – we had to move some people around. It showed depth – people willing to go out there. Obviously, that's a key position. You've got to put in a lot of practice to play out there. We didn't have a lot of practice at that. 'Skuley' will hopefully be back Week 1, which will alleviate some of the problems there. Other than that, there's a lack of depth there, but when you cut down the 53[-man roster], you're always going to have a swing tackle to play and we're counting on 'Skuley' to do that."
(On if he is concerned with the depth at the safety position with Kaevon Merriweather leaving the game last night)
"No, not right now. Tykee [Smith] is still a safety, and he can still play safety, so we've still got depth there with Tykee. We've still got depth there with 'Izzy' (Christian Izien), who didn't play in the ballgame as well. We've got enough guys. We've got about five guys that can play safety that didn't play it last night, but, that, in an emergency in games can play it."
(On if the team will name a starting center prior to the third preseason game)
"They've both been taking reps. I have my own opinions on it. We're going to meet as a staff this afternoon. We'll have a decision. It doesn't have to be made right now, but we're pretty sure we know where we're going."
(On what he saw from defensive linemen Lwal Uguak, Earnest Brown IV and C.J. Brewer)
"I don't think anyone separated themselves last night. I thought all of them were just fair if anything – fair to middling. We've got to make a decision down there with a couple of guys. That's going to be important, and it looks like it's going to come down to the last game."
(On defensive backs Tavierre Thomas, Marcus Banks and Rashad Wisdom)
"They all flash. They've got to be more consistent, they've got to be more vocal. They've got to be more consistent."
(On the depth at the outside linebacker position)
"The outside [linebacker] position on defense probably has the most depth of any position over there. We're very comfortable with the guys we have that are playing and that are backing them up right now – and guys that could possibly make the team."
(On if OLB Jose Ramirez has earned more snaps against starters in the third preseason game)
"Competition is competition. He had a hat trick. There are some little things he's got to clean up, just like all of them have to clean up. I plan on playing the starters in this game, so he'll see some time, definitely, and we'll kind of go from there."
(On if he plans on bringing in a kicker to compete with K Chase McLaughlin)
"It's a little late for competition. Chase has been pretty consistent. We'll clean up what we need to clean up and we'll be better going forward."
(On WR Kameron Johnson not playing on Saturday night)
"I'm hoping to see him this week. He practiced with a [no-contact] jersey last week, but he wasn't cleared. He did pregame [activities]. Hopefully with a couple more days of rest, he's able to compete this week. We'd really like to see him."
(On the lack of turnover on the roster throughout training camp)
"The depth we had back, and we really haven't had any serious injuries – knock on wood. A lot of teams sign guys when people go down, so they need bodies. We didn't have to sign a lot of bodies. We're comfortable and confident with the guys we've been developing. We've just got to keep getting them to mature."
(On if he might bring in an additional quarterback if John Wolford can't play next week)
"We'll see how bad John is first. We'll probably just try and get by with two and have an emergency guy on standby. Bringing in another quarterback and giving him two or three days of practice to run the system we're running would be kind of unfair. It's putting us behind the eight-ball, but we'll try to make do with what we've got."
(On what he's seen from Tampa Bay's rushing attack)
"We didn't have the ball as much [on Saturday]. Obviously we've got to get the ball back for them to run some plays. We can't have the penalties. But, for the most part, they're coming off the ball and the running backs are making the cuts where they need to make them. We're getting positive yardage."
(On if RB Bucky Irving is the same player they scouted and saw on film)
"He's the exact same guy we saw on tape. He usually always makes the first guy miss, he's very tough in between the tackles, and he's got a burst."
(On OL Elijah Klein)
"He's got to just keep developing. Obviously, moving him around last night was different for us with the injuries we had. We're going to try to keep him in at guard and get his technique down and everything. If he can take some more reps in practice at tackle and become an emergency tackle, that would be great, as well. We kind of like him inside right now."
(On OLB Chris Braswell's performance)
"He's had a good week. Last week, he had a good week of practice. There are some technical things we've got to work on – hand placement and getting off the ball with his feet, correcting those types of things. He's going to help us a lot this year. I'm very pleased with his performance."
(On if WR Sterling Shepard, S Jordan Whitehead, or RB Chase Edmonds might play in the third preseason game)
"The more you play, the more we get to see you, the better your chances are. I can't speak for when they'll be back. I'll check with the trainers on that. Right now, they're still day to day. If they can get some practices in this week, it'll look promising, and if they don't, it probably won't be."
