HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES
(On if there's an update on the health status of any players after Sunday's game)
"K.J. has an ankle sprain, so he'll be dealing with that. Mike Edwards has a hamstring – he'll get an MRI tomorrow, so we'll see what that is. Baker [Mayfield] has a sore leg."
(On if he feels good about the team's depth behind LB K.J. Britt and S Mike Edwards with LB J.J. Russell and DB Tavierre Thomas)
"I mean, they've gotten some playing time earlier this year – they're getting some playing time now. I feel good. Hopefully, we'll assess the injuries as the week goes on and we'll kind of go from there."
(On RB Bucky Irving's development this season)
"He's getting more comfortable with the offense. The more comfortable he gets, the more you can give him, the more he can do. Like you said, both [Irving and Rachaad White] are running well – we're happy with both of them. Bucky has a skill you can't teach – he can make people miss in the hole. He's tough on the inside. Rachaad [White] had a big run at the end of the game, as well. Using them both together seems to be working out for us."
(On if QB Baker Mayfield's first half struggles were potentially caused by Carolina's coaching staff being familiar with his play or if it was something else)
"They were two errant throws. I mean, you can't make those throws right there. We have to be smarter with the football. One was third-and-short – one, he scrambled, nobody was open, he flipped it to the side, the guy made a play. [We] just have to get it out of bounds at that time. It was less than two minutes or two-minute situation going on and he's going to make some mistakes. He understands that, but he gathered himself, he got back together after halftime and he made back and he made some plays."
(On why winning with the run game wasn't a priority earlier in the game)
"We try to do sometimes – we tried to run it early. They made some plays early on. We tried to mix it up. We turned it over a couple of times. [In the] second half, we kept it on the ground a little bit more, we started clicking and two runners made some plays."
(On what goes into having discipline and avoiding penalties)
"Penalties are big. Obviously, they set us back and we shot ourselves in the foot in the first half, especially offensively. We had a personal foul defensively, as well, so it's going to be huge going forward – December football because everybody is going to try to run the ball, everybody is going to try to stop the run. The less penalties you commit, the more chances you have at possessions."
(On if QB Baker Mayfield will be out of practice or the game this week due to injury and what was the thought process on the first play that he returned to the game)
"[Liam Coen] was just calling his offense. He was calling his offense. Basically with Baker in there, he figured they'd be piling up against the run so we tried to get a play in there and it didn't work. I think [Baker] will be comfortable [come] game time. I'm not sure about his practice status during the week though."
(On how concerning Sunday's punting performance was and how much reevaluation will there be)
"They were very concerning, almost cost us the game basically. The field position cost us. We got them out and we got them off the field but it's very concerning and we're definitely going to take a look at it."
(On OLB Anthony Nelson showing up in big moments Sunday and throughout this season)
"It was huge. I mean, he's always played under control. He plays calm but he plays tough and he plays smart. He doesn't have the build of a natural muscular defensive lineman and he has a baby face – 'Baby face Nelson' if you will [laughs] but at the same time, he's extremely smart, he's extremely strong, he's extremely active when he's on there, understand how to use his hands because he played inside [linebacker] so much in college. He understands that part of the game as well and when he's in there, he doesn't start but he gets starter plays and he will play more and he had a heck of a ballgame for us."
(On if he was thinking they had to force a Panthers' turnover when Carolina had the ball down the field in overtime)
"Either that, or make sure we get a 'TFL' (tackle for loss) and try to make the kick as long as possible."
(On if there are any updates on S Tykee Smith and OLB Joe Tryon-Shoyinka)
"I'll have a better feel on Wednesday."
(On what he expects to see from the Raiders on Sunday)
"Another tough team. I mean, they're tough, they play good ball. They just hadn't had the breaks – they had the breaks that we had in the first half of the season. We know it's going to be a tough ballgame. Every game is a playoff game for us. We have to take care of that."
(On how T Tristan Wirfs was feeling following the game)
"He's sore but he played a heck of a ballgame. He played a heck of a ballgame, he finished it out. He actually graded out very well, as well, but he's sore so we'll see how the week goes with him."
(On the gap between the wide receivers now compared to the passing game with WR Chris Godwin and if he sees this gap getting smaller as QB Baker Mayfield gets more comfortable with the other wide receivers)
"Well, they're not going to be Chris Godwin. I think he's very comfortable with them because when Mike [Evans] was hurt as well, they got more comfortable early in the season. That's paying dividends right now. We're not asking them to be Chris, we changed some of the routes for them so they can be themselves and we're comfortable with them helping us out going forward."
(On what it's like having WR Mike Evans back in the lineup)
"It's huge. We needed every one of those catches. I mean he came up with some big catches, some big first downs, the first touchdown – like you said – he came out with a big catch, in two minutes… I mean, he's out bell cow. We count on him to make plays."
RUNNING BACK BUCKY IRVING
(On how he is feeling and what happened with his hip injury in Sunday's game)
"It happened on the kick return, but I just had to put it off to the side and do what's best for the team to try to win the football game."
(On what it feels like for the run game to perform so strong in the fourth quarter and overtime)
"After the TV timeout, we pretty much said that we have to run it down the field. Me and Rachaad [White] pulled each other to the side and said, 'we gotta do it,' and pretty much put everything to the side and wanted to take over the game."
(On what it's like to see RB Rachaad White get a big run at the end of the game)
"In our room, all our success is one. If I'm having success, everybody in the room is having success. Seeing your brother going out there, knowing he has your back, knowing that I couldn't be out there at the time, I have faith in Rachaad. Rachaad is a great guy. Rachaad is a guy that can make explosive plays and we all in the room are capable of doing that."
(On what he saw that allowed him to get his long run in Sunday's game)
"Pretty much trusting the guys up front. We had a mid-zone call. I pretty much trusted my track. When I hit the hole, I got up on the safety pretty quick and I had to make him miss and then tried to run on an angle, but the cornerback had a pretty good angle. He ended up getting me down."
(On what kind of problems the '21' personnel with both he and RB Rachaad White presents to opponents)
"Coach has always said, 'We have to get our best players on the field,' but '21' personnel is pretty much you don't know which back is getting the ball because [of the] variety. We can run routes, we can do different runs, different schemes out of that package so we just have to keep putting our head down, getting it right, and hopefully expand on the package."
(On what it means to be named in Rookie Of the Year conversations)
"I don't really like taking all the credit. It's those guys up front. I think I have to do something really nice for those guys for Christmas, because they're getting the job done. I really don't want to take all the credit. Like I said, we have to get more of those guys in here and give them the credit for getting the job done up front."
