HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES
(On the three players who suffered injuries in Sunday's game)
"Vita [Vea] has got a strained calf, [Jamel] Dean has a toe injury, his big toe and [Joe Tryon]-Shoyinka has a hip. We're waiting for results to come back now."
(On if there was any consideration given on Sunday to pulling QB Tom Brady near the end of the game)
"No, not at the time. We were still trying to score some points. I think they held the ball the last part of it. Just to hand the ball off and concede the game, that wasn't it. We were trying to work on some things, so we let him stay in the game."
(On OLB Joe Tryon-Shoyinka's lack of production the last four games)
"He's athletic. I think the mental part of the game is coming [but] not coming fast enough. He's learning different things every week. I don't think he's put it all together yet, but I don't think he's been playing bad. He's been close a lot of times but it just hasn't turned the corner yet. He's just got to finish at the top of the rush, so to speak."
(On a report that QB Tom Brady's separate meetings with skill-position players results in a revised game plan that the coaches don't know about until the game begins)
"No, we know what's going on in the meeting and we know all the tweaks. The defensive guys meet by themselves as well. We have several position groups that meet by themselves as well to get on the same page together before a game. That's nothing…That's not new."
(On any positive takeaways from watching the game tape)
"Deven Thompkins was positive in the return game. I thought he did some good things coming out."
(On why the 49ers were able to succeed against Tampa Bay's defense)
"Well, Kyle [Shanahan] has been an excellent play-caller for a long time. I think we aided some of that as well. We didn't play our best game on defense and we got out of our gaps quite a few times. I think that hurt us a little more, but they did a good job running off the ball, getting up to the second level, getting to our [line]backers and running away from the D-Linemen."
(On what he thought about the penalties that negated big plays after watching tape)
"For Keanu [Neal], he could have aimed a little bit lower there. He could have went for the strip instead of the hit. Donovan [Smith]'s was a holding call. Carlton [Davis]' I didn't think was a penalty, but you can't do [anything] about that."
(On if he has had any feedback from players since saying after the game that the team had to decide what it wants to become)
"No. We get feedback all the time. All players talk, coaches talk, we talk about it. It's about doing the right things and following through and finishing it up. The talking part is kind of over. It's kind of about producing at this point in time."
(On if he feels the team is close enough that a few adjustments would lead to success, particularly on offense)
"Yeah, I do. I mean, we missed some plays yesterday on offense. We got some penalties on offense, same thing on defense. We can make enough tweaks to where we feel like we're close enough that we can score some points."
(On how different the offense looks now from what it was two months ago)
"It's a little different, it's a little more different. Rachaad [White] is involved a little bit more, obviously. We've got the running game going a little bit better, not as much as we want it to be. It's a little bit more and it's spread out; we're trying to spread the ball around some. There's been some injuries taking place since then so the line looks a little bit different as well. But for the most point, we've got to score more points, we understand that. And that helps with the offense scoring more and the defense getting more turnovers."
(On how much say QB Tom Brady has in the offense)
"Well, it's a collaboration. It's a collaboration with [Quarterbacks Coach] Clyde [Christensen), Tom, some of the receivers as well, trying to get the right plays in that he likes, the things that Byron [Leftwich] likes and then meshing it together. It's been like that since he's been here."
(On how hard it is to overcome missed throws by Brady)
"It's not hard to overcome, but the defense didn't play well, as well. You can say the same thing. It was a team collapse and it was a team effort from that standpoint. We had plays to make on offense, we had plays to make on defense. We just didn't make them. And when no one's making them, that makes it awfully tough to overcome."
(On if it is a priority to help Mike Evans get to 1,000 receiving yards)
"It would be great to have, but like you said, our priority is trying to get in the playoffs, and hopefully it comes within that realm."
