HEAD COACH BRUCE ARIANS
(On if he has an update on the status of T Tristan Wirfs)
"Well as tough as he is, I think there's a chance. He's in a boot right now. Probably he and Ryan [Jensen] are going to go all the way until Friday before we know anything true. We'll just have to wait and see."
(On the response of the players who returned from injury vs. the Eagles)
"They all played [well]. Shaq [Barrett] didn't look hurt when he was running with that ball. Lavonte [David] is not as sore as he thought he would be today. 'JPP' (Jason Pierre-Paul) is fine. They all had a good rotation going and they all played about 30-35 plays, except Lavonte played more."
(On C Ryan Jensen returning to the game after suffering an injury during the game)
"His mental toughness is off the charts. He's as tough of a dude as there is playing this game. That thing was going to have to be broken for him not to go back in."
(On expanding upon what he meant when he said once Tom Brady figures a play out, you're in trouble)
"Everybody has something new each and every week [with] how they're going to try and defend us. We had two gameplans – one if the weather didn't change and then one if the weather did. Obviously, we went with the one we liked the most and that's the no-huddle. Just doing a really good job with short intermediate passes, getting it out of his hands, knowing they were going to play soft. I thought Byron [Leftwich] did a great job of running the ball and making them stop the run, which opened up a couple of guys one-on-one."
(On if the reason for using the no-huddle offense is to keep the momentum going or to keep the opposing defense in the same look and not allow time for personnel changes)
"A little bit of both – tire out that defensive line quick, as much as we can. But when you look back and do the self-scout, that's when we've been at our best this year. So why not do it more?"
(On the level of concern he has with the injuries on the offensive line, specifically at tackle)
"I though Josh Wells – other than the one bull rush – I thought he played really [well] because he was playing on a bad leg too. Our inside guys got beat on a couple of twists. That shouldn't have happened. [We] misread what we thought they were going to do and we turned the guy loose – easy things to correct."
(On why Rondé Barber deserves a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame)
"Nobody has numbers like him. His numbers are unbelievable. The fact that he never missed a game and played with a broken arm – all of the things that he did basically inventing that nickel position – blitzing, interceptions. Even as a corner, he was one of the best corners in that defense. I played against him enough times, but to me he doesn't need to have a speech … His numbers are unbelievable."
(On if this is the best team he has been a part of in terms of overcoming injuries and still finding a high level success no matter who is in the game)
"We've had a lot of injuries in the past, but we end up 8-8. To be 14-4 with everything that's gone on is just a credit to the coaching staff but more so to the players and Jason Licht and everybody having this roster. We talked in the locker room after the game – you put that Bucs' helmet on, there's a level of expectation. You can't be the guy you're replacing. You just have to be the best guy that you can be, and these guys have all stepped in when they had these opportunities and done it."
(On the status of T Josh Wells)
"We'll have to wait and see on that one too. He had a pretty good quad problem, and we'll just have to wait and see."
(On LB Devin White benefitting from LB Lavonte David and others returning)
"I think that, and he wasn't trying to force it. I think when those guys are all out, he thinks he has to make every play and gets caught up in it. But this one, just do your job. He was all over the field – it was one of his best games."
(On the status of S Mike Edwards)
"He has a shoulder/elbow issue. He got stung pretty good on that one punt protection, but he's tough too. He's not going to miss any time. Mike had one of his best games too."
(On if he has any concerns with the availability of CB Jamel Dean and CB Carlton Davis III)
"No, they had big smiles on their faces. That was probably Jamel Dean's best game as a Buc."
(On if passing the ball 37 times and running it 31 times was part of the gameplan or a balance he wants to achieve)
"Yeah, you would love to be 50/50, especially through the first three quarters. Then, the fourth quarter dictates how much you're running and how much you're throwing it by the score. I thought we established the run early and it helped a bunch of things in the passing game. I loved the balance."
(On if running backs Ronald Jones II and Leonard Fournette have a good chance to return this week)
"We're going to wait and see if 'Lenny' can open up full speed. 'RoJo' still isn't cutting, so we'll know more by Thursday on both of those guys."
(On watching the QB Tom Brady's calculated approach to attacking opposing defenses)
"It's fun. That's the most fun that there is for me in this game. It was calling plays but watching your quarterback [not being] caught up [with] who's catching the ball. Just throw it to the guys who are open and don't force it down the field because you can get just as many yards dinking, dunking and making first downs. Watching him play, he's a surgeon. Like I said, he's going to figure you out if you're going to play two-deep shell, if you're rotating – he'll figure that all out real quick. It's hard on the defense, that's for sure."
(On S Jordan Whitehead playing at DIME linebacker to give LB Lavonte David some plays off)
"Lavonte is a great cover guy, but we needed to get him off the field. We didn't need to get 66 snaps out of him, and it was a way to get him off the field some and help us out."
(On how concerned he is with the depth at the tackle position)
"Very [concerned] today. Hopefully, not as much on Wednesday and Thursday. Very, very concerned about it today because we were going to have to put [Alex] Cappa at tackle and [Aaron] Stinnie at guard early in the first quarter of that game. Thank God Josh [Wells] just gutted it out."
(On watching the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams play tonight, knowing the winner will be Tampa Bay's next opponent)
"It should be a whale of a game that's for sure. They [have] two great quarterbacks, a ton of skill out there, a ton of speed out there and two really good defenses. It'll be interesting. Normally, you would know who you're playing today and you're working on your gameplan. Since last Friday we've been breaking down three different teams and now it's down to two. We'll have two gameplans set tonight, basic gameplans. By the morning, we'll be finalizing it [based] on who we're playing."
(On how he divides up scouting future opponents)
"We have different guys [who] have different assignments on blitzes, run game, substitution patterns, secondary coverages, etc. Each guy has a handle on his assignment. They bring it all to Byron [Leftwich] and he puts it all together. Same thing with Todd [Bowles], they do a collaboration on everything. We have both teams broken down that way and we'll see what happens tonight."
(On if the team will stick with the no-huddle offense despite potentially being without tackles Tristan Wirfs and/or Josh Wells)
"We'll have to wait and see. If they're both out, it will be a different type of gameplan that's for sure. There are two tremendous outside pass rushers that we're going to be facing on either team. We'll just have to gameplan for them."
(On players who have embodied the 'next man up' mentality this season)
"It's been great performances by almost everybody that has gotten their opportunity, but it would be hard to pick out one. I think Jamel Dean has made great progress for sure. That was by far his best game. I think everybody is seeing what I've always known about Ke'Shawn Vaughn that he's a legit player. The receivers have all stepped in and done their job. One person would be hard to find."
(On a goal-line look where they used four tight ends and how he felt it worked)
"We very seldom get in goal-line offense anymore. We practice it every Friday. Probably the last one I remember was Super Bowl and we didn't make it, so we don't get into it that much. Both plays were executed extremely well."
(On his interaction with S Andrew Adams and if he has any regrets)
"No, I've seen enough dumb [things]. You can't pull guys out of a pile. We just got a big play, great field position, and he's trying to pull a guy out of a pile and I was trying to knock him off of that guy so he didn't get a penalty."
(On if he is rooting for the Cardinals due to his ties with the organization)
"It's hard, but it would be harder playing them because I do have so many good friends out there. I never like playing against friends. I'm not rooting for anybody. I just want to find out who the heck we're playing. We know when and where, so let's get it on."
(On QB Tom Brady anticipating where he will go with the ball before the snap)
"He's extremely good at that. It might not be to the guy, but he knows the combination. As soon as the ball is snapped, that combination, he deciphers right now which one's getting it. That's as simple as you can make the game for the quarterback, but a lot of them can't process that information."
