If you've got the pipes, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miller Lite have an opportunity for you. And it's big.
Two performances for a small, intimate crowd could turn into a gig in front of 65,000.
In case you haven't heard, the Bucs and Miller Lite are in the midst of staging the 4th Annual Miller Anthem Contest. The first preliminary round took place last Thursday, July 13, but there are still two more opportunities for talented singers to join the competition. The winner of the contest will sing the National Anthem prior to one of the Buccaneers home games this season.
The karaoke-style competition – in the preliminary rounds, you perform whatever song you choose – is a four-week event being held at Champions in the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Downtown Tampa. It started last Thursday and will continue with two more prelim nights on Thursday, July 20 and Thursday, July 27. The finals will be held the following Thursday, August 3. Each night in the competition runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. ET.
Three singers will advance from each of the three preliminary weeks, using scores based on a system of points awarded by judges. The nine finalists will gather on August 3 to perform in front of a Buccaneer and celebrity panel. The competitors will once again perform the song of their choice to begin the evening; once the field is narrowed one more time, each remaining singer will try his or her hand at the national anthem.
The winner will perform the anthem from midfield at Raymond James Stadium just before kickoff at a home game, then stay to enjoy the action via tickets and VIP credentials provided by the Bucs.
The Marriott Waterside Hotel is located at 700 South Florida Avenue in downtown Tampa. No pre-registration is required; simply show up and try to out-perform your competitors.
