FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - Second-round draft picks Ras-I Dowling and Shane Vereen have signed rookie contracts with the New England Patriots.
The Patriots selected Dowling, a defensive back out of Virginia, with the 33rd overall pick. Vereen was the 53rd overall pick. He rushed for 2,834 yards and 29 touchdowns in career at California.

The Patriots announced the signings Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed.
New England picked up free agent defensive end Christian Cox, an undrafted rookie out of Utah. The Patriots also released quarterback Jonathan Crompton.
