The Tampa Bay Buccaneers unveiled today a commemorative patch that the team will wear on its jerseys during the 2015 campaign in recognition of the organization's 40th season celebration. The hexagonal patch features a "40 Seasons" banner, along with the current Buccaneers logo flanked by the years of the franchise's inaugural and current seasons on a pewter backdrop with red outlines. The design also incorporates "Bay Orange" and white, as a tribute to the team's original color scheme and uniforms that were worn from 1976-1996.
"The Buccaneers have a long and proud history in the Bay Area," said Buccaneers Co-Chairman Bryan Glazer. "We look forward to wearing the special 40th season patch on our uniforms in 2015 as we commemorate our storied past and celebrate our franchise accomplishments over the previous four decades."
The Buccaneers also announced their game themes for the 2015 season on Thursday, highlighted by two Ring of Honor inductions, a breast cancer awareness campaign and a Salute to Service appreciation.
The first Ring of Honorgame will take place on Oct. 4, when Buccaneers legend Mike Alstott will be inducted at halftime of the contest against Carolina. Doug Williams will take his place among the franchise's greats when he is honored on Dec. 6, at halftime of the matchup against Atlanta.
The Bucs will join the league-wide Back to Footballinitiative in Week 1 when they host the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 13 as fans once again celebrate the much anticipated return to regular season football action.
The National Football League's annual A Crucial Catchcampaign, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will highlight the Oct. 11 game versus Jacksonville. That morning, the Buccaneers will also host their Third Annual Treasure Chest 5K Run/Walk & Corporate Challenge around the grounds of Raymond James Stadium. Last year, more than 3,000 participants, along with the Bucs Care Foundation, raised proceeds for the American Cancer Society, Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, the Florida Hospital Foundation and Moffitt Cancer Center.
For the Nov. 8 home contest against the New York Giants, the Buccaneers will present their Salute to Servicecelebration. While the organization honors the men and women who served or continue to serve our country year-round and during each home game, this day will showcase and heighten the Buccaneers' appreciation efforts for our military.
On Dec. 13 against New Orleans, the Buccaneers will bring awareness to their PLAY 60campaign, which is designed to tackle childhood obesity by getting kids active and aware of the importance of health and fitness.
The regular season home finale on Dec. 27 against Chicago will once again be dubbed the "Thank You Fans" game. The organization will recognize and show its gratitude to loyal and passionate Buccaneers supporters with giveaways, messages from players and even the chance to be selected to receive one of the Buccaneers' team captains' game-worn jerseys.
Further details about the specific events relating to each game theme will be available closer to the start of the season.
