The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-7 in Preseason Week Two. The Bucs' defense set the tone and became the main storyline as the unit posted a five-sack performance, including three by second-year outside linebacker Jose Ramirez. Tampa Bay's 5.0 sacks are tied for the most in a single preseason game since TruMedia began tracking preseason stats in 2017. Overall, too many miscues sealed the team's fate.

Kyle Trask and company took the field first at EverBank Stadium and rookie running back Bucky Irving became the workhorse on the first drive. He averaged over five yards a tote on the sequence and picked up 16 yards on three attempts. Despite Irving's cutting prowess, the Bucs' were forced to punt following an incompletion to Jalen McMillan on third down. On the ensuing drive and the first for the Jaguars' offense, Bucs' safety Tykee Smith brought pressure on Mac Jones, forcing him to scramble. The rookie limited the opposing quarterback to a one-yard gain. Bryce Hall intercepted Jones on the following play but the pick was negated by a defensive pass interference penalty. After an incompletion to Tim Jones on third down, the Jaguars were forced to punt.

The following drive consisted of open cutback lanes for Irving, a lethal spin move off a screen by McMillan and an effective crosser by Ryan Miller. The Bucs were able to move the chains but despite the flow, a four-yard scramble by Trask fell short of the sticks on third down. The Bucs' defense then took the field and Jose Ramirez quickly made his presence known. On second down, he shot off the line like a missile and brought down Jones for a loss of 10 yards – posting the team's first preseason sack. He compiled another later in the drive, pushing the offensive lineman back into the quarterback. Jones tried to evade the pressure but fell. That play put the Jaguars behind the chains on third-and-17, however, Jones managed to connect with Parker Washington on a 25-yard touchdown. That play, capping off a 17-play, 80-yard drive, gave the home team a 7-0 advantage.

The Bucs answered with a score of their own. After a 21-yard gain by Sean Tucker around the right end and an 11-yard connection from Trask to Devin Culp, receiver Cody Thompson put the exclamation point on the nine-play drive, evening the score at seven. Trask escaped pressure and rolled to the right, delivering a dart to Thompson while on the move to tie the game late in the second frame. A 29-yard-deep lob from Jones to Austin Trammell set the Jaguars' up at first and goal, which resulted in a field goal. Cam Little's 26-yarder was good, giving the Jaguars' a 10-7 lead at the half.

The Jaguars kicked a field goal on the first drive out of the half, this one being a 44-yarder by Little. Jacksonville converted on a fourth-and-two attempt when Trammell eluded an open-field defender for a gain of23 yards. A quarterback hit by Will Gholston on third down forced the Jaguars to settle for three. The Buccaneers followed suit with a quick three-and-out, and Bucs' outside linebacker Markees Watts became the enforcer on the ensuing possession. On third down, he powered his way into the backfield for a sack on C.J. Beathard for a loss of eight, forcing a punt.

The Bucs' offense stalled on the next drive with a quick three-and-out, and the defense answered with a fury. On first down, Lwal Uguak sacked Beathard for a loss of nine, which set up second-and-long. Two plays later, Ramirez tallied his third sack of the night. He took down Beathard for a loss of 17 yards, halting the Jaguars' drive. Ramirez utilized a speed-to-power move and then worked a spin maneuver to bypass the offensive tackle. He chased down Beathard for the momentum-shifting play.

On the Bucs' next possession, a touchdown by DJ Williams was nullified by an offensive holding penalty. The next play, Thompson drew a defensive pass interference penalty, which set up first-and-10 at the Jacksonville 28. The Bucs had to settle for a field goal, but McLaughlin's 42-yard attempt was wide left, keeping it a 13-7 game. The Jaguars extended their lead on the next series, as Jones dropped a deep lob over the Bucs' defense, hitting Easton in stride for a 31-yard touchdown. The eight-play, 68-yard drive culminated in a 20-7 lead for the home team. A third-down sack by Esezi Otomewo on Wolford promptly ended the Bucs' next drive.

Wolford exited the game on the following drive due to injury and Trask came back in. With a 21-yard gain to Thompson and a 10-yarder for Tanner Knue, the Bucs marched down the field in the final minute of regulation. A sack on Trask by Gaziano ended the matchup with a 20-7 final on the scoreboard.
