Baker Mayfield has played two seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers so far. Both of them resulted in playoff berths, and now both of them will end with Pro Bowl invitations for the seventh-year quarterback.
On Tuesday, the NFL announced that Mayfield has been added to the NFC squad for the 2025 Pro Bowl games, replacing Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, who is unable to participate due to injury. Mayfield had previously been named a first alternate at the position when the Pro Bowl rosters were initially unveiled on January 2.
Mayfield joins the Detroit Lions' Jared Goff and the Minnesota Vikings Sam Darnold as the NFC's quarterback squad. He also joins three teammates in the competition, as the Buccaneers Pro Bowl representation has doubled in the past two days following the news on Monday that Mike Evans would be replacing injured Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb. Defensive lineman Vita Vea and tackle Tristan Wirfs were both part of the original Pro Bowl roster reveal.
Mayfield not only participated in the Pro Bowl games a year ago but was named the competition's Offensive MVP after winning the precision passing contest for the NFC. By repeating as a selection this year, Mayfield has made franchise history: He is the first Tampa Bay quarterback to earn multiple Pro Bowl invitations, let alone two in a row. Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Jeff Garcia, Jameis Winston and Tom Brady each had that honor once while with the Buccaneers.
Mayfield set career highs in nearly every passing category in 2024, completing 71.4% of his passes for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns and a passer rating of 106.8. He set new Buccaneers records for completion percentage and passer rating and became just the 10th passer in NFL history to throw for 4,500-plus yards and 40-plus touchdowns in a single season. He also ranked in the top five in the NFL in passing yards (3rd), touchdown passes (tied for 2nd), passer rating (4th), completion percentage (3rd), completions (tied for 2nd, 407), attempts (5th, 570) and touchdown percentage (2nd, 7.2%).
Mayfield's 378 rushing yards were also a new personal best, more than doubling his previous single-season high of 165 in 2020 with the Cleveland Browns. His 24 rushing first downs ranked 11th among all NFL quarterbacks.
Mayfield was at the helm of an explosive Tampa Bay offense in 2024, one of the most prolific in franchise history. The Buccaneers finished fourth in points per game (29.5), third in yards per game (399.6), third in passing yards per game (250.4), fourth in rushing yards per game (149.2) and first in third-down conversion rate (50.9%). The team set new franchise single-season records for total rushing yards (2,536), yards per carry (5.3) and third-down conversion rate.
