HEAD COACH JON GRUDEN
(On the first half) "We did good things obviously. I like the way we started, it was a great first drive. A couple of key drops stymied some opportunities that we had. We are doing some good things but we have a long way to go."
(On the defense) "Their offense moved us around a little bit and had a couple of drives, but we had a big pick in the end zone. We are off to a good start and have a chance to be a very good defense, but we will need to have some guys step up."
CB RONDE BARBER
(On the first team defense) "We got off the field quick. We got a turnover. We talked about starting fast. We did it on offense and we did it on defense. As far as the first team defense goes, I think it was a job well done. We need to get off the field on third downs, but other than that, I think it was good."
(On the first couple of series) "I think the things we emphasized showed up on the first couple of series, and I think we'll take a positive from that."
(On the fumble) "I think Torrie (Cox) got his helmet on the ball and got it a little loose, then I was able to get my hands on it. It's one of the things we've been emphasizing. Put it on film, put it on tape. It's encouraging to translate what we've been practicing to the field."
LB DERRICK BROOKS
(On the effort by the defense) "We have to feel good. Two drives, two turnovers. That first drive was good, that second drive we gave up some plays, but we needed the work."
(On the new guys) "It's too early to evaluate. The thing we are looking for tonight is for everybody to play physical and everybody hustling. That's what the coaches asked up to do. We know we'll make some mistakes, but if you play physical and hustle, you can overcome those mistakes."
(On how he felt) "I felt good. I felt a little winded. That's something I needed, this defense needed. It's something to build on for next week. We are still building. We are not trying to put the roof on the house until it's time. We are just laying the foundation down, putting the pipes in and get into the process of building this house. We aren't trying to finish anything."
WR MICHAEL CLAYTON
(On the first team offense) "It felt real good. It really was what we wanted to establish. We got our linemen off of the ball. We were able to do some dummy counts, and we were able to get to the line and run the play that we wanted. Brian (Griese) made a couple of checks at the line which we were comfortable with. We've been practicing that. We just really wanted to formulate our running offense with receivers blocking downfield and we were able to do that."
(On how he felt) "I felt really good. My main thing was being physical. I know we've wanted to establish our running game early. The first ball that I was able to catch, I just really wanted to focus on catching the ball. As we go on, things will get a lot more familiar, a lot more comfortable."
(On Brian Griese) "His poise is excellent. He's a guy that you can see confidence on his face. We rally behind that. The guy has been busting his butt during the offseason and he's ready for this challenge. He's ready to show up this year."
QB BRIAN GRIESE
(On the first drive) "I thought we had a good tempo early. We wanted to establish a running game, and I thought we did that. Earnest Graham had some great runs in there, and so did Ian (Smart). I thought it was good for our offense to get off on the right foot."
(On the offensive line) "The guys up front did a heck of a job. They've really worked hard for two weeks now at training camp. They came out here, their legs are probably tired, but they fought through it. They came out and did a great job establishing the line of scrimmage."
(On where the offense is) "I feel good with where we are at this point. I think we have a lot of room for improvement. We have a lot of work to get done. We have a lot of young guys that we are counting on to contribute this year and they have some work to do, as do our veterans. I want to get better each and every day and hopefully set an example for those guys."
S JERMAINE PHILLIPS
(On the first team defense) "I think we got off to a good start. There are still things we need to work on, but I think we are off to a good start and going in the direction we want to."
(On his interception) "I just know one way to play, and that's to go all out and try to do my job. Mike Tomlin always says our job is to stop them from scoring and get the ball back, and that's what I was trying to do. I just read my keys. He (McNair) had the ball, patting it a bit, he came back my way and I was there to make a play."
(On the defense) "I think we are happy with our effort. Once we look at the film, we will get into the details. But, I think we are excited with how we started off."
RB CARNELL "CADILLAC" WILLIAMS
(On not carrying the ball) "I found out yesterday that I wasn't going to play that much. We want to save it for next week when we open up at home. I was a little disappointed being the competitor that I am. But Coach Gruden reminded me that this is the preseason and there will be plenty of carries to be had this year."
(On the atmosphere) "I was like 'wow'. I am just so amazed that I am in the NFL, in a Tampa Bay Buccaneer uniform. I just can't wait for that first initial hit." **
