Buccaneers High School Coach of the Week

Tampa Bay area high school football expert, Dan Lucas from WFLA (@WFLADan) selects all nominees based on specific criteria. Now, it is up to you to vote for the Buccaneers High School Coach of the Week. Voting will start on Tuesdays of each week starting on at 9:00 a.m. and end on the Thursdays of that week at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced on Fridays and posted on buccaneers.com/coachoftheweek shortly after.

Please consider the following criteria when voting for the 2024 Buccaneers Coach of the Week:

  1. Have winning record, beat a longtime rival, snap a losing streak, defeat a defending champion, and/or record an amazing comeback victory.
  2. Show commitment to his player's safety by teaching the fundamentals of the game, proper tackling techniques. Concussion management practices and adherence to heat and hydration techniques.
  3. Display a strong rapport and have earned respect from his players.
  4. Have developed a mutually respectful relationship with game officials by using acceptable methods for questioning and avoiding disruptive behavior.
  5. Be a leader in the game field by always exhibiting positive behavior.
  6. Be involved with outside organizations such as camps, clinics, and coaching conventions.
  7. Be involved with community programs.
  8. Developed excellent relationships with other coaches by being cooperative, considerate and being positive with game related media statements.

The winner will receive an additional grant for $2,000 from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation to help maintain and upgrade their football program and receive (4) tickets to an upcoming Buccaneers game courtesy of Ticketmaster

WEEK 10 NOMINEES:

Matt Thompson, Jesuit HS- Coach Thompson's Tigers improved to 3-0 in their district with a 42-6 win over Hillsborough, setting the stage for a chance at another district title, and run up to the postseason.

The Tigers, a perennial state contender, took on one of the toughest schedules in Florida, and stand at 4-3 with two games to play.

Travis Puleo, Seffner Christian- Coach Puleo's Crusaders defeated Sarasota Christian 54-13 to climb to 6-2 on the season. The victory is a bounce back from a tough loss a week ago, and also doubles the team's wins from last season. The Crusaders endured a 3-6 campaign last year, but have their sights set on returning to the playoffs this season.

Auggie Sanchez, Seminole HS- Coach Sanchez's Warhawks won their sixth game of the season a 34-29 victory over Northside Christian. After going 4-5 last year, Coach Sanchez has his team on the right path, despite many of its players continuing to deal with the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Jacquez Green, Manatee HS- Coach Green's Hurricanes clinched their district championship with a 41-0 win over Braden River. The Canes' lone defeat in the regular season was out of state, in Georgia. Coach Green now has his team poised to chase a title in the postseason.

WEEK 9: Robert Hollway, The Out-of-Door Academy

WEEK 10: Auggie Sanchez, Seminole HS
